None, they are synonymous. (though there are many many sub-divisions)

When Martin 'Luther' nailed his list of 'Protests' to a Catholic Church in Germany way back when (15th C I think) he started a movement that eventually saw the formation of a new way of Christian worship.

You can form the name to describe this movement with either 'Luther' or 'Protest' but it amounts to the same thing. There are however many many different types of Lutheran and Prodestant Churches, some even calling themselves 'Lutheran' or 'Prodestant' just to confuse things even further.

The Catholic Church could not accept Luther's recommendations and despised the new church so Lutherans are definitely not Catholics (thats the whole point; to worship more directly, to be Christians without following Catholic doctrine)

None, Lutheranism is a type of Protestantism. Protestantism is a broad category that covers a lot of different denominations. Basically, anything that isn't Catholocism or Orthodox is Protestant.

There are hardly any denominations named Protestant. That is just what Catholics call Lutherans. Lutherans may or may not call them self protestant.

I am a Christian & don't believe the apocryphal in the Catholic Cannon, or the added Mary doctrines. But I don't consider my self Protestant. But I do protest against false doctrines. So, that is what I am when I protest against false doctrines. As Jesus protested against false doctrines in Revelation, to the 7 Churches.
