This question won't apply to ALL religious people. It's just that I've encountered and have heard of religious people who are like this.

Hmmm...
How could anyone expect to get into Heaven, without treating fellow humans with respect?
Considering that Jesus did teach us to love other people with the same love He has for us, and that His "golden rule" is to do unto others as we would want them to do unto us, and that He also told us that what we do for the least of these, we also do for Him...
How could anyone expect to get into Heaven, without treating fellow humans with respect????

Recovering our love relationship with God, who gives us his life, is the most important thing to be concerned about. God made us to know him, love him, and serve him, and to be happy with him forever. The greatest commandment is to "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind" (Matt 22:37).

Treating fellow humans with respect is usually important, but these days it is exaggerated by those who insist on political correctness. One cannot criticize the errors of Islam, atheism, fundamentalism, or even Wicca without evoking some adherent's ire for failing to show respect. The demands of respect for everyone are choking off intelligent conversation.

For those who think everyone deserves respect, have you hugged a Nazi today?

Concerning Wally's comment, "It's a Catholic thing. You can lie, cheat, steal, murder and then go to Confession and be absolved of all your sins, so that you can still get into heaven."

Actually, that's a Jesus thing. Amazing that we can be forgiven seventy times seven times. Catholics believe it because Jesus taught it.

Cheers,
Bruce

Can you imagine if the same people were on a raft in the middle of the atlantic for a few months and starvation set in what would be the extent of their Christianity then? I can almost here it being said `` I am Heaven bound but you are not so shut up and let us eat you in peace`!

Um, excuse me, but atheists are religious too. They believe there is no God and follow that belief religiously. What religion is God anyway?

People and their quirky personalities are in the middle here. It boils down to this. Either do or don't accept Christ as your personal savior. It is your choice. It is your life and death. Enjoy.

This is my humble opinion. You are free to choose to accept it or don't. In the end, all I have done is answer your question. I will now take my two points and go and answer another question. Thank you.

EDIT: Thanks for clarifying your opinion. Still doesn't change my answer....

Why do fellow humans always want "respect"?
"There is no respect of persons with God"; None!
There is only respect of persons against God. Selah.

Perhaps when we all stop wanting respect of persons,
then we'll collectively be reconciled unto God, not Jesus,
by firstly being reconciled unto brethren all are all as one.

Mean-while,
Any thinking other-wise can simply bend over
and "double" kiss their divided @ss bye bye,
as "Jesus" did for bringing "division"-all law vs law;
And as the "reward" for Baby-lon the Great in Rev 18.

By other-wise, I mean earthy, sensual, devilish wise,
of the two wisdoms compared in James 3:16 -vs- 17.

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

This is not always the case.
Still, the reverse is true for some "atheists." They are more concerned with getting people to conform to their ideas and beliefs than treating them with respect.
Interesting.

Well, real Christians are actually not so concerned are they going to heaven, cause they know they are. That's because they know that they are not saved by their good works, but only by faith in Christ!

Now, real Christians also want to love their God and obey His commandments, and one of God's commandments is to love their neighbors and show love to them by doing them good. But, that's the fruit of real salvation, not the effort to gain it!

I am more concerned that my husband gets into heaven, than respecting him when he is drunk & calling me stupid. How can I respect a drunkard.

I show my husband respect when he is himself & sober.

Funny isn't it - do you suppose those will be the ones who hear Jesus say "I never knew you"?

Most people are not that way...it's the right wing fundamentalists who act like that.
