The web site below is very good but I would also get a copy of the Oxford Book of Names, your local library should be able to get hold of a copy for you, it deals with Surnames, Given and Place names.

Apparently you do not have a simple English name, such as "Smith" or "Cooper".
You can google your surname; you can try various websites, such as:

And, of course, if all else fails, try cyndis.com. Hers is the most inclusive genealogy website leading to all sorts of genealogy websites.
