It's an organic acid that is the major constituent of bile.
It doesn't really perk you up according to scientific studies, although it may help to reduce muscle fatigue. Red Bull also contains massive amounts of caffeine, which were blamed for a death in France, leading to the products ban there.

Taurine is an amino acid.

I think it's the caffeine that "perks you up" though.

I always thought Taurine was 'bulls bile' but I have never had that confirmed.

taurine is extract of bull urine...hence the name RED BULL

red bull claims to not use the urine, but you are a fool if you believe that.
