Hi grilling is so fun and you'll get the hang of it. When I grill corn I leave the husks on. Then can be put right on the grill and the flavor of the corn is outstanding this way! The potatoes will take a little while and I'd give them at least an hour if not more. When you cover them with foil take a fork and poke holes so the steam can escape.

The first thing to go on the grill is the potato's, rub with oil, and salt on the outside skin (after washing of course) and wrap in foil. Put on the grill away from flames covered, for 1 hour. During this hour soak your corn in the husk, (if you have already husked it, you'll have to boil 5 minutes in a rolling boil), if the husks are still on, you can put on the grill the same time as your meat.. when they start to steam they are done.. about 6 to 8 minutes is usually good...

If you have a charcoal grill, you need to make sure the grill is hot before putting anything on the grill. This will take up to 30 minutes. If you have a propane grill, just turn it on, wait five minutes and the grill is hot.

For the bakers, coat them in some olive oil and sprinkle them with kosher salt. Wrap them in foil and put them on the grill. Doing it this way will take at least 45 minutes. To make it faster, do as above, but put them in the microwave for four minutes then put them on the grill.

For the corn, I suggest you peel off the green covering and get rid of the silk. Coat them in butter and seasoned salt (like Lawry's) then loosely cover them in foil. The corn will take about ten minutes.

Good Luck

I wouldn't do the potatoes on the grill. Two potatoes, 5 turn 5 in the microwave and 20 minutes in a 425 oven.

Try this for corn, you will love it!! Its a variation of Mexican Street Corn.

2-4 Raw Ears of Corn
Sour Cream
Cilantro
Mayo
Fresh graded Parmisian Cheese
Mexican Chili Powder
1 lemon cut into wedges

Mix 1 cup of sour cream and a quarter cup of mayo in a small bowl. Add about a half cup of Cilantro and mix it up. Cover and 'frig for about an hour. Take RAW and SHUCKED corn and place them directly on a medium hot grill, about a quarter turn every 5 minutes or so, just enough to get a brown stripe and don't let it get too black.

Set up a kind of station where you can put the Cilantro mixture on the corn like its butter, sprinkle the Parmisian cheese all over it, dust with the chili powder and squirt some lemon juice on it.

Its messy but you will be in for a treat!!!

Oh yeah, thumb me down but try it and you will be very pleased

I use my grill alot. Especially for baked potatoes and corn. I use foil to wrap them in. I use olive oil cooking spray on my potatoes and then wrap them in foil and if you have a top rack on your grill use it. The foil keeps them from drying out. I usually cook baked potatoes 45 min or depending on the size. Soak your corn husk and all for a few hours then place on grill. It takes about 30 min to cook corn with the husk on. Keep turning them so they cook all around.

if it's corn on the cob soak it in water for about 3 hrs and put it husk and all right on the grill. It will steam and be goood. When the tight leafs start to burn it's done. Potatoes wrap in foil and bake for about 40 minutes, poke with fork and if there hard in the middle there not done. All this should be done on top rack over low flames or hot charcoal

If you're using corn on the cob, peel the husk down enough to clean the silk off but leave the husk on, wrap the corn in bacon, then in foil, and cook it. The corn gets a nice bacony flavor and the bacon comes out almost like proscuitto. The trick part is to be sure your fire is not too hot, you'll just burn the outside and the inside won't cook. Poke it with a toothpick to test for softness, to tell if it's done.

Potatos tend to take quite a while (an hour or better) depending on the size. Make sure you perforate them with a fork before you wrap them, and butter the skins to keep them moist. Corn is much trickier, I wouldn't advise trying to cook it on the grill as a first-timer (especially with your time constraints). I'd recommend boiling it first and then buttering/spicing it and grilling it briefly and directly (no foil) to give it flavour and character.
