One day as I was going to school, on the bus, a Jehovah's Witness sat next to me. She then gave me a handout of their religion. She went on to explain her religion. She even told me that if I ask any prisoner what his religion is, it certainly isn't Jehovah's Witness. She even went so far to tell me that her religion is the only TRUE religion. What's your opinion? Is she telling the truth? Oh, and I'm not interested in converting to Jehovah's by the way...

Yes.

Jehovah's Witnesses are unique for their rejection of paganisms, use of God's personal name, and global preaching by every active adherent. No other religious organization can claim such purity of worship.

These facts about Jehovah's Witnesses are perhaps relevant to this question. The more one compares this Christian religion with others, the more remarkable it is shown to be.

1. Jehovah's Witnesses have no paid clergy. Yet they remain tightly organized with more than 6.5 million active Jehovah's Witness preachers (about 16 million associate themselves with the religion). Even fulltime preachers and workers at their branch offices are unpaid volunteers.

2. There is no elite class among Jehovah's Witnesses. Even the few 'anointed' among them enjoy no special privileges in their congregations on earth. An anointed person (one of those relative few with a heavenly hope) is not elevated above his fellow congregants in any way, and he may not even qualify for appointment as a simple 'deacon' or elder. There are no titles; EVERYONE is addressed as 'brother' or 'sister'.

3. No person benefits economically from the Christian Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Even the 8 to 20 men who serve on their Governing Body receive simply room, board, medical care, and reimbursement for certain personal expenses according to the exact same provision as every other branch volunteer.

4. About a hundred men have served on Jehovah's Witnesses' Governing Body committee during the past 125 years or so. The vast majority of them have spent the vast majority of their adult lives volunteering for their organization's purposes, and the vast majority have died faithfully and near-pennilessly while still under their legal 'vow of poverty'.

5. Amazingly, Jehovah's Witnesses did not splinter as a sect from some other religion. Instead, a truly tiny but sincere group of bible students studied only the Scriptures to determine the will of God. Thus their religion remains absolutely independent of and not carrying the sins of Christendom's history, yet carries the authority of Christ's teachings.

6. Despite the distortions of anti-Witnesses, throughout their modern history Jehovah's Witnesses have refused to claim divine inspiration or infallibility for their teachings. They have pointed to the bible (and not any particular translation) as the only inspired infallible means of knowing God's thoughts. For over 125 years, their teachings have been presented as merely the results of sincere bible research by imperfect but godly humans.

That assertion; "Jehovah's Witnesses are the actual faith" have got to be quite getting round. Why do you suppose that could be? "True" suggests "right" and "residing as much as specifications". How can anyone end up that they're "right" and "residing as much as specifications"? When we speak approximately religion in God and Christianity the one solution to end up this as real is to make use of the Bible because the normal. Do Jehovah's Witnesses do that? Yes they do! Not just one or 2 Jehovah's Witnesses however all Jehovah's Witnesses are taught approximately the Bible in element. Before you could effectively receive the perception consequently, they're made certain of what they have got accredited. What different religion does this in such element? Do no longer the opposite faiths for the foremost side have simply blind fans with little or no expertise of the Bible, and no longer handiest that, little expertise of the religion they're connected to. That is what I have identified! Sorry if it upsets humans however I am no longer telling a lie. Okay, so JW's are all taught in keeping with the Bible. Some humans are pronouncing that we would not have the correct interpretation. If humans do suppose this, no longer handiest are we inclined to sit down down with them in my opinion and uphold our interpretation, but additionally we seem for those humans to exhibit and end up to them why we feel it to be real. So we're powerful in our religion and don't seem to be hiding what we feel. This preaching paintings we do is freed from cost so we're a actual religion without a ulterior reason. In reality our complete group is non-benefit and is designed purposefully for spreading the message from the Bible and what humans have got to do to get stored. We don't drive humans however do propose investigating the Bible with us and check for themselves if what we are saying is right. So what I have acknowledged for that reason a ways suggests a "right" religion within the experience of: a million. All fans are taught in element by means of the Bible (God's Word) two. They all realize what they feel in and for that reason no longer residing a lie three. They are inclined to end up to others the translation of the religion four. They all partake within the preaching paintings giving each person else the equal risk five. They are actual, don't have any ulterior reason and are a non-benefit group designed purposefully of spreading the Bible message These are handiest five features and there are lots of extra, however will have to no longer this be sufficient considering the fact that on this international no different religion can resemble what has been completed as with JW's.

That's interesting that she was able to explain her religion to you and you listened. Now, did she listen while you explained your religion? Did you give her some pamphlets, and did she graciously take them and read them when you explain that yours was in fact the true religion? And is she questioning whether you are telling the truth?

Interesting, I was reading through some of the responses and saw one of them loaded with logical fallacies, not to mention that talking about Jehovah's Witnesses not being a cult, was not even closely related to your question.

It doesn't matter to me whether you convert to Jehovah's Witnesses' theology or not. Just a suggestion though: get a balanced view from mainstream Christianity before you decide that they are the ones that are correct.

All I can tell anyone about finding the "true religion" is - read the Bible, compare the beliefs and teachings of the JWs to the scriptures- ALL of the scriptures - the JWs are seemingly very knowledgeble about the Bible, flipping back and forth to scriptures with a practised ease. The fact is there are a very few scriptures they are trained to memorize and find quickly- these scriptures support their doctrine but are taken out of contest and excluding of some other very important biblical teachings.
Unfortunately, there are really no "earthly" religions that do not practice this same tactic. We all, to one degree or another are in idolotry, creating in our own minds our definition and image of God, either led by a religious doctrine we have become comfortable with or shaped by our own past experiences and circumstances.

if she didn't believe hers was the true religion then obviously she would seek another religion, the fact she believes she has the true religion should cause us to consider our own religion and to be sure what we believe is actually in the bible and correct. that is if one is a believer in the bible and is sincerely trying to follow it. some could care less about the bible and thus they do not measure anything against it.

no harm is done to examining teh scriptures and being sure what you believe is actually true.

She may be just very enthusiatic, next time you get into a conversation like this you could just ask why she or he believes it is the true religion and thus you can have a interchange of thought. no harm in that. you could go home and look up the scriptures yourself to see if the things you are hearing are true or not. after all the boreans did that when paul was speaking to them about Jesus.

No, but they left some nice reading material by my back door yesterday. Do you think the "no soliciting" sign by my front door meant my back door was ok then? Or, they just wanted to act like a real "neighbor?"

Regardless, I don't really like people walking through my property.

But, Paolo, I don't think your religion is the true one either. As an atheist, that pretty much sums up my view of any religion. Why did she say hers was more true than any other...I mean, what makes it better? That there are no JW prisoners?

:P You could have used the argument that there are very few atheist prisoners too. Even if you don't agree with atheism it might have put her back a step. :) :) :)
Have a great sunday.

All Jehovah's Witnesses can do is quote and present preprinted materials done by their organization. They are not allowed to think freely on their own.

They are a cult and the members are sadly brainwashed. Notice that NO Jehovah's Witness can provide information that supports them except for websites that are MADE by the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Do a search on Jehovah's Witnesses on the web, and see the overwhelming about of info that shows they are a cult and why. It far out weights any info from www.watchtower.org (also http:jw-media.org). Sound controlled to you?

The Bible does not agree with the modern view that there are many acceptable ways to worship God. Eph. 4:5 says there is "one Lord, one faith." Jesus stated: "Narrow is the gate and cramped the road leading off into life, and few are the ones finding it...Not everyone saying to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will." -Matt. 7:13,14, 21; (see also 1 Cor. 1:10)

Repeatedly the Scriptures refer to the body of true Christian teachings as "the truth," and Christianity is spoken of as "the way of the truth." (1 Tim. 3:15; 2 John 1; 2 Pet. 2:2) Because Jehovah's Witnesses base all of their beliefs, their standards for conduct, and organizational procedures on the Bible, their faith in the Bible itself as God's Word gives them the conviction that what they have is indeed the truth. So their position is not egotistical but demonstrates their confidence that the Bible is the right standard against which to measure one's religion.
