Even thought the VFW and other veteran groups help support the soldiers in combat and their families at home, when the soldiers come home they in turn do not have an interest to do the same. Why?

I'm a 29 year member of the American Legion and a 12 year member of the V.V.A. They are both Organizations worthy of my my support and beneficial to my needs.

However, I initially joined the American Legion because their Legal Department was able to give me guidance in filing and winning a claim for Veterans Benefits; and the VVA was able to provide a Vet Rap Group when PTSD began screwing with my thought processes years after my Vietnam experience.

I'm sure that eventually Mid-East War Vets ( M.E.W. Vets - ??? ) will eventually seek-out and form their own groups and organizations with comrades who have more in common specific to their age and experiences.

Sure, we may all be Combat Vets, and we all share a common respect and concern for one another... [ THEY ARE MY BROTHERS]... but how well would we Nam Vets have fared in joining the WW2 Vet Organizations when we first got home? I really wasn't in any mood to be around other vets, or to be discussing the "glory days".

Just continue to be there for them in an indirect and quiet way... and keep the light on should they one day find them-self as the Troubled Wayfarer seeking a place of rest.

Younger veterans feel that they are too busy for such things, just like the Vietnam vets did when they came home. But as they got older and realized they started having health issues from the war they started joining the VFW to help get their benefits. The same will go for the Persian Gulf vets from early 90s they will need help with the VA system and need the large organizations to help them fight for what they need as well. A lot of vets get out of the service wanting to forget what they had seen and experienced and move on with their lives, but no mater what they can not run from it. They then realize that only other war vets can understand what they went through and will help them in their times of need.
For any war vet of any age the VFW will be there for you.

This isn't just rthe case with the VFW.
Clubs like rthe VFW, Knights of Columbus, Reublican clubs, Dem clubs, lodges, and the like were founded as social clubs, each directed at groups of peole with something in common. People tended to join, to socialize and work on projects in which all had an interest.
Now, people just don't have or take the time to participate in club activities, are too busy, or just plain don't feel like joining.
Differest times, different tastes.
Also, WWII was a "great crusade" if you can call it that, but Vietnam and now Irag are less popular wars. Vets of these wars are content to just come home and pick up their lives and pursue other interests. As the older members pass on, there are fewer younger people to take their place.

The only local chapter I have near me is the VFW. Being that I havnt served in a combat zone, I dont qualify for it yet. But then I wouldnt have had much time for it anyways. I was only out of the USAF for a month before I enlisted in the Army.

The only vet organization that isnt a social club is the DAV
They are there to help vets and most are volunteers. As far as the american legion and vfw,> social drinking clubs that benifit themselves
I belonged to all 3. Only Dav is consistant. So dropped the other 2

Allot of young people sometimes feel that they don't have the time. I've joined several veterans groups and although I fully and honorably support them, I don't (although I would like to) have the time to participate in events. I think older vets are usually retired and have the time.

The VFW seems to be made up of guys from the Vietnam, Korea and other older wars. It is a group of different guys. We in this war don't think about it cause it seems like your from another time.

I was going to join the VFW until Dick Cheney was a VIP speaker at one of the Conventions.

heavily, do you innately want bullshit, or are you merely no longer able to make your factor without it? at present's random rebuttal: a woman is far less in all probability to be raped on armed forces duty and/or on a positioned up than in "the civilian international." there is far less crime of all varieties via armed forces workers and on their posts. Wasn't your criminal background why your enlistment develop into rejected?
