Worse, why do Republican Presidential candidates take seriously the ramblings of the people who are the biggest offenders in that area?

If the Republican Party were interested in helping the United States, they'd blow off the Family Research Council and start paying more attention to the more pro-American groups. The best thing that could happen to the Republicans would be if they nominated Giuliani and he won the Presidency without the support of the far right nutcases who currently hold the Party hostage. Heck, I might even vote Republican in that case.

First of all, your use of the word "ramblings" implies judgment and perhaps a superior knowledge; the same is true of "superstitious" and "herdsmen." "Knowing" anything is a progression, or evolution: babies first learn to hold up their heads, then sit up, crawl, stand, and finally walk before they can run. You (we) were once a baby as well as an inextricable part of that ancient lineage that you seem to spurn. In every tribe, from the beginning of known time, there have been those who have been more aware and attuned to the mysteries of life. Every generation adds to the next generation more understanding of our origins; much of it (perhaps all of it) "revealed" through the expanding consciousness of evolving minds. Some of those "minds" have reached both outward and inward to find connection to life's impulse and purpose. The "great books" hold much wisdom from different cultures and times. I am Sirius

Because those ramblings make them feel that they will be able to do the impossible , live forever .Common sense tells us that all living things here on earth follow the same route - - we come , we reproduce , we die.
But just say maybe there's a way of not being the end , they'll come like a swarm of bees . Logic , common sense , knowledge , the natural order of things , are all tossed aside.
Everlasting life is an easy sell . Who cares about logic ?

The need to believe in something, anything is so prevalent now. People are scared and with good reason. We have been pushed to a point to where we realize we are the ones that have to change things. Not some god. We are capable of so much more than most of us have ever dreamed. This is the beginning of the great awakening. From religion to truth. We have to change our world and re-program our thinking. We are our own saviors.

Could be that they realize that the answer certainly does not reside with people who do not believe in God.
