Is Arabic a hard language to learn fluently?

I'm wanting to move to Bahrain and was wondering if Arabic is a hard to language to learn fluently.

Extremely difficult. I've also lived in the middle east. The grammar is tough, the alphabet is different (they read from right to left) and there are no cognates with English.

However, if you just want to learn to speak conversationally, and not necessarily to read and write, that would be easier.

However, Bahrain is very western. Many people there speak English and there is a large expatriate community, so I think you could manage if you were truly interested.

There is nothing hard about arabic language. What you need is DETERMINATION and a good couch as the same time. It is only that a person especially a muslim has an added advantage if he recite the Holy Qur'an frequently. It will interest you to note that we the hausa speaking tribe of nothern Nigeria find it easy to learn arabic than any tribe in nigeria, because about 95% of the Hausas are muslim and the Arabs that had a trading link with the northern part of Nigeria and most of the hausa word are drive from arabic

Ya its hard. I live in the middle east and I have been around Arabs and I went to a skool all in Arabic also for yrs and I still sometimes don't understand some stuff.

i can attest to the fact that it is.ive lived in the middle east for five years,and i havnt yet got past basic conversation my children are all fluent arabic speakers and even with their help im having trouble,find a good arabic course specifically aimed at non arabic speakers,that should help you get started.
