A misconception has to do with how one is "sent" to hell. Often objectors claim that God randomly picks people to be damned as if on a whim. Additionally, they envision that the one sent to hell is absolutely innocent in the matter and had nothing to do with the outcome. On the contrary, Christians have long held that hell is a choice that is made by the one who arrives there (e.g., in Matt. 7:13-14 Jesus says those who choose the broad path walk to destruction). Essentially, then, God does not send people to hell. Rather, people send themselves.
Another misconception about hell is that it is a place of physical torment and torture. Rather, most Christians have understood these descriptions to capture symbolically that hell is final and utter separation from God's saving grace. Some Christians, like C. S. Lewis, take hell to be a real place where sinful people make themselves miserable. Similarly, thinking of heaven as a place of hedonistic pleasures is wrongheaded as well. In fact, those who choose hell would not enjoy the pleasures of heaven since those pleasures essentially flow from a right relationship with God. This right relationship with God involves forgiveness of sin!

Actually we aren't bigoted, dear one. And there is only ONE sin that "you will go to hell over." That sin is not accepting Jesus as your Savior.
Jesus said, "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. NO man comes to the Father but by Me."
He is the way to heaven. The ONLY way.
God bless!

We christians sin like everyone else. We all fall short, christians and non christians alike. Christ paid the price for us, so that when we sin, we can ask for forgiveness from the Lord. It doesn't give us a pass to sin day in and day out, but Christ's blood that was shed, when we do mess up, forgiveness is ours for the asking. It does not give us the ok to sin, but man is imperfect and will always mess up. It seems you are under the impression that christians believe they are sinless. That is not the case and christians that says they never sin, are not telling the truth.

It is quite the contradiction. Every sin is equal and will get you damned to Hell yet believing in Jesus will forgive every sin and get you accepted into Heaven (see the first answer). It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. What would stop you from committing a sin if you believe that Jeebus is going to fast track you to Heaven anyways?

Hi,
As A believer in Jesus Christ, I like to believe that when we die we answer for all we do in this life when judgment day comes. The good and the bad and as for other so called Christians, they too will have answer for their own short comings, when their own judgment day comes, the only one who can pass true judgment on me is God himself, for we all sin and fall short of the glory of God

I am a Chrisitian, but I do not profess to know everything about it as you no-believers seem to. How is it that you know more about what is going on in Christianity than your own back yard? Do NOT EVER say that I am a Christian that believes in most of your blasphemy about us. We real Christians pray for people...we do not condemn you. praying for you all..............RESEARCH PEOPLE...do your research instead of generalizations.............

But when we sin, we tell God were sorry and we ask Him to forgive us. Then we strive to not make the same mistake again.

They think that because they are saved, that their sins are forgiven, but that the rest of the planet who either has decided not to follow their idea of what is right, or not had the opportunity to learn about it, will be punished.
Case in point is the 1st poster.
Kind of crazy outlook if you ask me. If God is omnipotent and omniscient, then why would he make everyone jump through hoops and pass tests? My God is bigger than that.

As a Catholic, when someone asks me if I have been "saved," I answer: "I am redeemed by the blood of Christ, I trust in him alone for my salvation, and, as the Bible teaches, I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), knowing that it is God's gift of grace that is working in me."
