I want to travel as light as possible. Will be visiting my son and don't want to be bogged down with suitcases. Most of time don't even wear what I've packed.

I will be traveling from Ohio to the Texas panhandle. So the weather not really that much different, but could be warmer at times maybe.

You know they have department stores in Texas too. I know it is hard to believe. Also there is a Walgreen's on every corner. And why take soo much. Just wear a nice sweat suit and take your girly bathroom items. Buy what you need there..Blue(the cat) says it is much cheaper to buy as you need than over buy before you go. You are so lucky you get to see your son, who cares what your wearing. Its a Holiday make the most of it.

Put the things you wore last two weeks on bed. (Or clean ones instead.) Now take half away, so you have enough for one week.

Your son will have a washing machine or know where you can find one.

Add one fancy outfit for the evening you take him to dinner.
Does it fit in a single suitcase yet?
If not, take more clothes away, there will be shops there too, if you are really caught out.

I often make a check list, starting from the skin out, top to toe, list each item. (Or in the order I wear them.) That way I will have one (pair) of everything, two or more when needed.

Remember to cull down after you made your list, as you want to take as little as you can get away with.

My basic list:
Underwear for the whole trip, (does not take a lot of space.)
T-shirt or blouses for one week.
Sweater, one or two at most, (take a lot of space.)
Jeans, 2 pair, (adds a lot of weight.)
One pair of light weight trousers or sweat-pants. (Or two of these and one jeans)
Socks.
One pair of 'proper' shoes and one pair of slippers or flip-flops for in-house and emergency use.
Nightclothes.

If you want to add one outfit for going out in, try to use parts that can replace the things on the list above, it can be your second pair of light trousers.
If you can get away with wearing your clothes for several days, do. But also plan for that, bring less.

We always tell people to pack light.... if you forget something, you'll be able to get it there. Here is our basic packing list with the "amenities and necessities" we generally take: http://www.mousetourstravels.com/basic-packing-list.html We would go with carry-ons only, but don't forget that you need to pack with today's security alerts in mind: http://www.mousetourstravels.com/travel-security-alert-packing-guide.html

Here's what we pack in our "one quart plastic zip top bag" for the TSA rules:
Hers....
3 oz (90 or 100 ml) shampoo
3 oz (90 or 100 ml) hair cream rinse
1 oz (28 ml) hair "detangler"
sample size toothpaste (or 90 ml when I can find it)
3 oz (90 or 100 ml) facial cleanser
2 oz ( 59 ml) facial moisturizer/sunscreen
2 oz (59 ml) Liquid hair spray
mascara
lipstick and 1 oz eye drops, and 2 oz contact lens solution can usually go "outside the bag", but I can squeeze them in if I have to.

His.....
3 oz (90 or 100 ml) shampoo
sample size toothpaste
3 oz (90 or 100 ml)sunscreen
1 oz. (28 g) cortisone cream
1 oz. antibiotic cream
Chap stick if they insist

Happy travels... even if you don't travel the world... just remember that life is a journey... embrace and enjoy it! http://www.mousetourstravels.com
