My friend never mentions it,,like he has no interest at all..I was wondering what most Australians think about seeing N.Y city and San Francisco. I have a place in both and he shows no interest.

Australians and New Zealanders are amongst the most travelled people on earth. In every remote corner of this planet you will run into one, as travel is one of our great loves, and we are very in-tune with other peoples ways of life. Because of our great distance from other world centres we are used to travelling and seeing other places including America. You will find that because your friend never mentions wanting to visit does not mean that thousands of other people also do not, its just his interest or non-interest.
. I also have friends in the U.S. who show Nil-interest in coming to Australia. Many have mentioned they are scared of creepy crawlies (Buggs) as you call them, which is a non-issue, or getting on a plane and venturing somewhere other than holiday destinations in Mexico or maybe Europe which from experience is where I saw most Americans go when I was in the U.S.
So, yes many Australians do want to see the United States. But traditionally you will find because of value for money Australians/New Zealanders head to Bali, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong or England because of the Commonwealth connection and/or relatives/friends there. You have to take into consideration our exchange rate at times is also very unattractive, in the year 2000 the Australian dollar was at around 49 U.S. cents at one stage, so that makes it extremely expensive for us, and then you have gratuities on top of all that. At present it is ok, hovering at around 89 U.S. cents which makes it more attractive to take the family to DisneyLand for example. New York City personally is not on the top of my list. I liked Chicago, and I also really like Seattle and Colorado I have been to Sanfancisco many times and it is an extremely interesting place and well worth the visit.

I have been to Hawaii and L.A, and I had a wonderful time. Though Ive got to say, it wasn't that much different from where I live in Queensland. Hawaii the beaches and very touristy, much like the gold Coast. L.A we did the theme parks, which we have here also, but perhaps not on such a large scale. One day I would dearly love to go back and experience some of the other states. If I get the chance I would like to go somewhere, perhaps a little less touristy. Maybe experience the mid west, somewhere off the beaten track. The problem is that it costs so much, especially with a young family, although not quite as bad now with the exchange rate.
But definitely I would go back in a heartbeat, I found the American people warm, friendly and welcoming.

I am from Australia. Yes, some of us are interested in seeing the USA but our airfares are some of the most expensive in the world. It is much cheaper for us to fly to somewhere in asia which is much closer and much cheaper.
Also, many young people prefer to go to Britian and Europe. This is a big tradition here. Go to London, maybe get a job for a while, get some money, and bum around Europe for a year or two.
Maybe your friend just does not like travelling. I hate flying long distances.
p.s. the above point about American TV is a good one ; it could have something to do with it.

I would like a day or 2 in San francisco as I've heard it is very interesting. also my friend has been to Las Vegas and he raves about it and couldn't understand why I didn't have a desire to go there, but I've heard about it that often, I now would like a quick look to see if he is right. I've never been one to ogle over affulence, although I enjoy a little luxury.I believe America has some super places .to visit and I have been to many different countries and seen many different cultures now so possibly it is getting higher on my list. I now have a son living in Canada so if I visit him and I'm so close to America the chances are I'll land on your soil.

Australians are very in tune with American culture and society. Most of the television shows and movies are American, so they know as much about us as we do! lol Americans aren't the most adored people because we don't take the time to notice anyone or anything but ourselves most of the time. My boyfriend is Australian and definitely has an interest in visiting here, but has no interest living here. And to tell you the truth, once you experience the Aussie life style and mindset, you will very much envy them and understand why they never want to leave!

i think that America would be lovely to see but it is not on the top of my to do list.
i think it's because we have a lot of TV shows from America we feel it is not necessary to see a country that we see alot about on television. Most Australians like to go to places we find intriguing, hidden and since we are a very relaxed country we also like places that promote a relaxing atmosphere....

No way.
We had your prime minister in Australia last month,he brought with him 70 motor vehicles, 750 gmen all carring guns,a war ship, and they completely locked down the city of Sydney with 21 foot fences,for us to walk to work we had to produce idenitifications, they shutdown all our mobile phone,stop restaurants using steel knifes (plastic only) stopped the trains and cars and he was paranoid the whole time he was here.
There is NO way I would go to america and do that full time.
