I believe you can give baby benedryl to calm them down - but the dosage depends on the size of your cat. Here... I found a chart:http://www.diamondpaws.com/health/drugs.htm

Take your cat to a groomer! All the work will be done and they give special cat medication while they cut your cats hair. Bring your cat in for a shave, make an appointment and you'll stop worrying about the hair. But if the pills are human... then yeah they can hurt your cat even kill him. Just buy some Cat sleeping pills online.

DO NOT GIVE YOUR CAT ANY MEDS NOT RECEIVED FROM THE VET!!!! That said, ask your vet for ACEPROMAZINE. It's what I give my 15 year old , very healthy and happy kitty for stressful situations. As for taking your cat to a groomer, make sure there is a vet on call for the place, especially if your cat is older. When my little fuzzbutt got dreaded out, my husband(mostly) & I just worked on him a little every day. They let you know when they've had enough. When they do stop immediatedly!! Reward them for being patient with you and give them lots of TLC and treats. Use a fine-toothed comb and scissors. Don't worry if they look goofy with a bad haircut. Note on the scissors: cut across the matted clumps not under and try not to pull too much. After Kitty is all silky & smooth, brush everyday. Good luck. May your baby look as good as Marcel does!!

RE:
Can you give cats sleeping pills?
I was planning on cutting my cats hair because it is so thick and knotted. And when i start to cut his hair he gets very angry. So i was wondering if i take my pill cutter and cut a pill into a very small portion and give it to him could it hurt him at all?

Don't ever take the sleeping pills route!!
1. They will damage your liver big time and you can get into serious health problems.
2. You will get hooked up on them and you won't be able to have a normal life any more if you don't take your pills everyday.
The sleeping pills industry is damaging our health by capitalizing on our ignorance, and by distracting people from effective and natural ways to deal with this problem. I had been taking prescription sleep medications [Ambien] for over 5 years. It stopped working and I simply took more. Still did not work. Nights were very difficult - medication put me to sleep but I would wake up after 2–3 hours with a strong sympathetic response (fast pulse, pounding heartbeat, wide awake alert). It was a very difficult cycle to break. I was really in bad shape due to lack of sleep.
After years of struggling I was able to cure my insomnia naturally and pretty fast. I followed the Sleep Tracks sleep optimization program, here is their official web -site if you want to take a look: http://www.insomniacure.net
Ohhh..and Good Luck!

ASK A VET FIRST. Most human medicines are toxic to cats and you'd be killing him even with something as simple as aspirin.
The vet offices often have the vet techs do shaving of mats in cats, for low cost. Call and check about that first.

I agree WIth Selkie 100% This is a miracle remedy for animals. You can get it at most health food stores, and also can be put on their fur, or on the ear lobes, and it is absorbed into the cats system. I would not try any medication for humans, unless your vet said it is OK!!!

It definitely could hurt the cat. If you use 5lb dog flea spray on a cat, the cat will seizure, maybe die. Cats have very touchy bodies. Call your vet and see if they can give you a cat tranquilizer. They will give you the right dosage, and probably will not see the cat to give it to you.

No! Call your vet and ask for suggestions. They can help. Or take him to a groomer. Don't give meds as cats can have adverse reactions and you don't want to harm your kitty.

NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER
attempt to medicate any pet for ANY reason
without a veternarian's prescription and/or approval!
Don't make your pet pay for your ignorance!
As for the cat's hair being an issue,
the vast majority of cats are extremely fastidious,
and can take care of themselves
(where do you think the hairballs come from?).
If the hair is truly that much of a problem,
take it to a professional groomer
(make sure the groomer has a good rep;
a (fortunately) very few bad apples treat pets harshly,
if not violently, turning your pet into a monster;
I've seen it happen three times,
so, please, go only to an established firm
with good credentials and references).
