Respect for women is the recognition that the genders are not equal.
Men and women are complementary not equal.
We could not procreate if we were.
In the Bible, men are to be the heads of the house, yet they are to assign the honor due to their wives. It is the natural order of life.
Gender equality and the 'sufferage' movement serves only one purpose-to get women out of the house and into the workforce so that the government can expand their tax base.
Then, those who fall into this trap have to pay for child care, where some twenty-something year old college student who is trying to get their teaching credential, will watch your kid and not get paid for it. Not the best of circumstances for your children.
For those that say that women in the work force has 'freed' women? Wake up! Just because a woman has a 'career' has not freed them. The real joy in life for a real woman is to raise their children instead of pawning it off on some daycare center where their child has the potential of being abused.

Dragon Queen---reading between the lines here. I am sorry you have had such a terrible situation in your life. But your assertion that Christianity does not have the most respect for women is in error. May I tell you---the scriptures are abundant about women who stood tall.
Remember, it was women who stood at the foot of the cross, it was women who took his body and tendered the rites at the tomb, it was women who went to discover he was risen.
In the old testament there are tales that a woman hid the spies, women ministered to the widows and orphans, women stood with their husbands as counterparts---helpmeets if you will. Women who were beyond childbearing years---becoming mothers. I know of many cultures where women are treated as subservient and as slaves. But Christianity is not the one.
I hope you can get through the trauma of being victimized and I will remember you in my prayers.
Just my opinion. You have a blessed day.

The Native American "religious" beliefs are equal among men and women, children and even Two Spirited people (gay). Our Women are considered to be as strong, wise and able as a man. Our Men are considered to be as gentle, loving and nurturing as women. Children are honored as our future. Anyone can be a healer if they are chosen to do so, anyone can be a warrior, a Chief, a hunter or a tribal leader. There are no different sets of rules for one or the other as we are all people one no better than another.

I know, I know, as a "Baptist" I am clobbered with the sex discrimination blame all the time, and it is deserved! We have translated, assumed, and interpreted scripture to maybe not enslave, but, oppress women under our thumb. It bites, and I fight against it every day. But, these people are the closest to the truth! I have yet to find anyone who interprets the Bible better, yet they are not perfect. You want perfect? You want to wait for perfect? You will wait all the way till death, it will never happen. Read, translate, interpret, and teach your own truth, if you do a better job than these others, I WILL Follow you, until then, you are just another finger pointer saying these people suck! Sad thing is you are right, they do! But, who is to change it if not you or I?

In the religion your speaking about the women dress from head to toe because they believe that is respecting her.
I would submit to you a Christian religion where the women are part of a "harem" so that the man can get to heaven.
All religious faiths have extremists.
What you're doing is judging and I think there's something in the Christian Bible about that.

Sounds like you're looking for the teachings of Baha'u'llah founder of the Baha'i Faith. Independently investigate for yourself. Read for yourself about Baha'u'llah's teachings on the total equality of men and women, the elimination of all forms of prejudice, the oneness of humanity, and the establishment of justice and peace and prosperity for all humanity. Of course Baha'is are still learning how to eliminate these qualities in themselves and create institutions that reflect these values and high ideals, as we are part of the cultures from which we came. Here are a few useful and link-rich URLs to get you started.

Oh come on this type of `woe is me` mentality is never ending, minoritys still harp on about the same issues they did 30yrs ago as if they have gained nothing at all.
We may well be equal in the eye`s of God but the cold reality is that in this world we are not equal at all.
I am not equal because I am working class to the female who is a CEO for example, you are not equal to me because that is a fact of lfe.
This humanist idea of a world Utopia is nothing but silly idealism that has never materialized and never will as long as we are imperfect human beings.

Paganism ~ specifically Goddess {and God equal} based traditions such as Wicca and Witchcraft.
Women are actually revered and worshiped in most traditional matrilineal religions / pathways.

I don't know any Christian women who feel like they are slaves or sex objects.
The Pagan religion does actually tend to treat women higher then men but I only know one pagan so I don't have much evidence on that.
