If the flag wasn't, it would look like the soldiers were running from battle. The way the flag sits, it saeems as though they are running into battle with pride and honor.

There is no "wrong way" for the flag. There could be said to be a back and a front, but depending on the direction of the wind, the flag either flies with the stars in the upper left or upper right corner.

Jessielynn answered first correctly and should get best answer.
All those who answered with the flag flying as if from a pole moving forward to represent advance, not retreat are correct.
Stephanie. We are not talking movies. REAL Uniforms, the right side patch and right side of vehicles have the Blue field and stars on the right side of the flag (Backwards if you will)
It is as others say. to signify advancing, and not retreating.
Ajith, You have no clue as to what you are talking about. it has nothing to do with mirrors.

The flag on the right shoulder is backwards because that is how it would look on a pole if you were moving forward. The one on the left is correct.

Imagine that the side profile of the soldier's shoulders (seen from both sides) is the actual flag pole.
