This week the body of a 2 year old boy was found in a Sydney lake.It appears the murderer was his mother, & that he was shaken to death.Like most people I am deeply saddened and disturbed by this.I am a young mother of two sons, aged 5 and 4 mths.I want to know what I can do in the community to reduce the incidences of domestic violence and murder of poor innocent children. Does anyone know of any charities I can support? I understand this is a political issue, as our current childrens services (DOCS) does not have the funds (apparently) to investigate thoroughly each reported case of child domestic violence. This poor 2 year old was reported to DOCS before his murder yet they obviously did not take adequate action or he would still be alive today.I believe that educating & supporting families should help, but some evil people do not care.Is there anything, besides raising my sons with love and care, that I can do to help?I see too much child violence in the media it makes me sick.

Thx 4 responding.U are correct, I do pray. The lack of responses from other members is sad.I noticed people answer questions about girls with weight lose issues, or celebrities, but it seems no one really has much to say on this topic. I will give it more time, but I doubt I will get many.

Yes you bet there is, Pray to God and I know you already do this. But pray more, more and then go up to the DHS office and yell them that you want to help. You can volunteer to work for SCAN, I hope this helps you and thank you, God Bless you to.

Volunteer and get others to volunteer. Find out why these mothers and fathers and others are hurting the children. It could be something that is easily remedied which would result in less infant/children death. Work on implementing programs to help new mothers. Try to get a program started where a parent can bring a child for help without fear of repercussions in cases of extreme frustration. The mother or father could drop the child off to qualified caregivers for a certain amount of time in order to solve problems in the home life. Work on other problems that cause this problem (poverty, spousal abuse, etc) in order to fix this problem.

Organized a Community Infant Domestic Violence awareness program. Have the seminar at a Community center or large church. Bring in some of the best Community leaders in your city to address this problem.

This would be your first action. Organize a board of concern citizens and see what happens.

Advertise as a relief sitter. Parents can call you when they get stressed and you can watch the child for a few hours to give them a break.
I'd get a group of friends together for this or you might find yourself getting used as a free babysitting service. Perhaps just advertise through social services or the police maybe.

If you dont know of anyone and there are agencies but with out funding start a letter writing campagn and send to local represenatives and your political folks to make them aware there are programs avaiable but funding is not there so make it be known write articles in your paper, local government, and make it be aware educate the uneducated to maybe start paying attention to your community
