...due to immigration, longer life expectancy and higher brth rates. Is it time to say 'enough is enough' and cease all immigration into the UK? Do we have the means and infrastructure to deal with this projected population explosion?

NB - 15 million extra people is equivalent of two new cities the size of London!

Yes there must be a complete end to any further immigration into this country and the removal of those immigrants who arrived here illegally, to ever solve these overpopulation issues.

I don't want to see any more of our beautiful countryside turned into concrete cities.

POpulation growth is something that Doomsday fanatics have been talking about for years. It was once believed that the Human population could not exceed 4 billion because there wouldn't be enough space on Earth for everyone to live and still be able to eat or even breath. Currently the population is around the 6 billion mark and I for one can still breath and there's still food. In fact there's feilds that are being left fallow for the next year or two so a higher quality of food can be produced. We as a spiecis have the ability to think and plan for future events. No other animal has that ability or at least to the extent that we have. A squirle for example isn't storing nuts because it knows winter is coming and has to make sure it has enough for the whole winter, like a nut a day. It stores food because it's programed into it's DNA and instincts. I've recently read reports, not by a single "scientist" but ones that were published by a large group that actually really researched the situation and came up with the model that if we DO NOT improve our current food, housing and basic scientific understanding, that the Human population can reach about 12 billion before we reach serious problems. So it takes us about 10 years to grow by a billion and that's not counting the fact that the world population is rather top heavy meaning that there are alot more old people than young ones. Honestly there will be problems that pop up, no one will see them coming and they will be eventually delt with. We will continue to grow as a people and our population will grow as well.

I am more interested in that the Asker turns the issue of population exploration into the immigration control, even you said there are several reasons resulting in the facts,"due to immigration, longer life expectancy and higher brth rates"

Stop blaming on immigration and instead we should be proud of the successful economical and political mechamism appealing to people all over the world. Unless UK is not part of EU, is not desire to become the centre of the world, is not progressing into the civilised conuntry, otherwise the immigration amount would continue growthing up in the next decade, and maybe longer.

How about be optimistic about the economy and tax contributed by the population exploration? How about take efficient policy towards birth control on British adolescents? How about compare the figures to other developed countries such as France, Japan, USA and Spain?

Then you will find the answer!!

As I recall (correct me if I'm wrong) it was that crazy economist Malpus who claimed that over-population was impossible as long as resources matched the size of the population. And there are some who believe that the coming global dictatorship (the NOW) will cull the surplus population and bring it down to manageable proportions. And I recall the Star Trek episode where on this distant planet there was standing room only!

We all know that over-population is very real and as a **short-term** solution we should indeed restrict immigration into the already most heavily (densely) populated parts of the world. Nothing racialist or racist about it so no need for some answerers to go into histrionics.

As to what the real **long-term** solution would be I give up.

yes it is time to call a halt on immigration.no we don't have the means to accommodate them all. This is SERIOUS people, but NOTHING is being done about it.indeed just MENTIONING it gets you a violation, and the usual name-callers crawl out from under their stones.with their usual tirade..Nazi !-bnp!-racist!-? does Mr sceptic and his cronies really think Britain could cope with an extra 15million people?
why cant we(the u.n.) go in and sort out these countries-surely it is in ALL our benefits if the people had stable govts, and a place of work to earn a living? We are not the 'land of milk and honey' that everybody thinks we are,but until Mr brown has the balls to stand up and say NO MORE the hordes will keep coming...and the system will continue to crack, until one day....the sh1t will hit the fan...

crispy-you are an idiot!!! i am completely against the influx of immigrants for none other reason in that we are an island-we can only hold so many-it has nothing to do with racism. eventually everybody is going to want his little bit of land "his lttle peice of turf" to qoute cyrus and considering that we have every race creed and religeon on our shores something has to give. because this puppet government allows the ethnic minorities to dictate to the indegineous population what they can and cannot say or do then this will cause resentment. in the area i live in just recently a young lad was attacked by a gang of poles FOR BEING ENGLISH!!!!! (this is in england by the way) you couldn't make it up and what i am truly sick of is people like crispy who cannot define the anology between racism and realism-i was raised amongst sikhs muslims west indians and black africans the majority if which feel the same way as i-our beloved land is being slowly taken over.

this is not being rasict, other countries limit the number of people immigrating into the their countries and a few countries probably fobid it, also the uk economy might struggle a bit aswell because of the umemployment rate, also the density will rise from 641 people per square mile to 761 people per square mile.

This is the biggest disaster in the history of the UK and most UK people have not yet leaned this.

We are just about to pay the price of importing masses of people into the UK

when we will start putting pressure on those countries whose people flee from it like fleas on drowning rat. why can't other countries start taking some responsibility and make their own countries livable so that other nations inherit all their refugees. struggling economies + hordes of immigrants with intentions of collecting benefits to which they have no rights = economic collapse.

15 million in 40 years is not a lot for a country of 61 million.
