I heard once to list the 5 things that your pet loves to do. So, eating, cuddling, jumping up to lie in the window sill, etc... when he is unable to do three of those things anymore, then it is time.
It's a very hard decision but you don't know for sure yet, maybe he will live a very long time without suffering at this point. You will always wonder how much longer he had if you think about things that way. He is happy now - cherish your time together! He isn't ready to go yet!

It's very hard to have to put a pet to sleep. In the past year, I had to put two of our dogs, and one guinea pig to sleep. You have to realize that putting them to sleep is taking away their suffering. When an animal is very old and there is no hope of recovery (such as with cancer), it is the best thing you can do for them. Keep him comfortable and spend as much time with him while you can. The most loving thing you can do for him is take away his pain once he becomes too sick. I know how hard it is to let a beloved pet go, but you are really doing the best thing for him. I'm so sorry you have to go through this, but remember all the great years you had together <3

Wait and see what the vet says, it still might be nothing and something with can be treated. At the moment he can still do all the things a cat should do so dont put him down at the moment. If you put him down while he is still healthy you will kick yourself later, spend every moment with him as if it is his last. But if he starts being depressed and is not himself then thats the time. Just dont think about that at the moment you have a healthy cat. Good luck at the vets.

Only you can make this decision. You will know when your cat is suffering, and it doesn't sound like he is now, so enjoy your time with him.
Don't let your vet decide when to have him put down. I've been in that situation with my first dog and it was the wrong decision, it's 8 years later I still can't get over it. Only you can decide, not a vet.

Ask the vet. If he says you should put him to sleep, do it. But make sure the vet is really trustworthy and is really qualified before trusting him with such matters.

Let the vet complete the investigation. Then decide.

Until he can't eat, or he starts showing pain that you can't fix, keep him as your pet. You wait till his ability to enjoy life is turning bad before even considering euthenasia.
