Lots of us came from a religious background and went to church, the whole 9 yards. I was wondering if you guys think an Atheist fellowship would go over well?? No, it wouldn't have songs and prayer and all that, but would be a great time to reflect on the state of the world and enjoy coffee and doughnuts with fellow Atheists. Just curious...

I live in the Bible belt of Kentucky and there are almost no Atheists here. (Or at least the ones that are here are closeted. Atheists are discriminated against pretty hard here.)

i don't just not believe in cristianity or any religion for that matter, i don't believe in any organised religion which once athiests start having fellowships they become. most cristians are only in it for the social bit, let them have their exclusiive little club, you don't need one... you got common sense.

It isn't necessary. Over the years I have developed a circle of friends whose company and discussion I enjoy. It includes other atheists and Christians, Buddhists and a Moslem. We discuss everything and anything. The one group we are all agreed are the most dangerous in the world are fundamentalists of all religions. They are scary people. There is no real difference between a fundie Christian and a fundie Moslem.

I do enough community work outside my job that that wouldn't personally interest me. I'm happy to have friends with my same general beliefs, but I'm also happy to have friends from different beliefs so long as they accept me for the person I am.

Those kind of discussions - state of affairs, politics, economics I have with my friends and family from a variety of different back grounds.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't join a club devoted just to being atheists together. I might join one with a purpose, such as cleaning up the environment.

I would go to the Unitarians if I wanted that... mostly, I just have coffee with my family... we watch the news and talk... I play here if there's something fun... it's all good. I don't want to have to get dressed and go out. It's my day off! lol

What would we have to talk about? The only thing we have in common is we don't believe in god.

Haha that made me laugh, to be honest if they did they'd just be insulting anyone who has a slight belief that there is a God.
