I hate it when mexicans group me with them. Cubans are culturally more like white americans anyway (even though we speak spanish). It is just weird how mexicans call me "brother", very stupid imo. Please don't group me with the economic policies of the mexican government. And by the way, if you are mexican realize that your country has the harshest immigration law in the Western Hemisphere, so don't fly a mexican flag and point the finger at america.

God Bless America, and a free Cuba

I live in Miami and the poorest areas of the county are not hispanic. They consist mostly of African Americans or Haitians. Some parts of the Little Havana area are poor with recently arrived immigrants but this area will soon be replaced by high priced condos. The poor of Miami will need to move elsewhere. If you've been here you would know many hispanics and Americans in Miami live well. This includes legal and illegal immigrants. It's comon to arrive in Miami on a tourist visa and not leave. We have a few Canadians and Europeans here that do this and many of the illegals from Latin America arrived this way. They didn't run across the TX border. The majority of hispanics in Miami are Cubans because the country is only 90 miles across the ocean (duh!). The Cuban community has lots of political clout because they vote and contribute lots of $$$ to both parties. They become US Citizens as soon as they are able to not to get gov assistance but to have the right to vote. By the way, to bring a Cuban relative to the US legally the sponsoring relative must prove they can afford to support this person and not make them a burden of the state. I believe this is the same for other legal immigrants. My gradmother came from Cuba and received social security benefits when she retired because she worked in this country. You can't get security benefits if you don't work legally. Also, please don't say all hispanics in Miami are Cuban because it's not true. It's the same way when people say all hispanics are Mexican. Hispanics are very diverse with different backgrounds and we don't all look the same. Don't generalize. Many immigrants in Miami have college degrees from their country or are here as legal international students attending our universities. Like many immigrants in the US, those hispanics who do not speak fluent English will work in the service industry (restaurants, hotels, retail, etc.). All the others will end up in an office job or open their own business. There are many successful hispanic owned businesses here. Also, it is a fact that in South Florida a majority of hispanic students continue on to college. Many will get a full or partial scholarship because they have the GPA and education to deserve it. In the southern part of the county you find the agricultural area which is mostly Mexican or Central American. Many of these immigrants are illegal and work in agriculture and landscaping (some might do construction). Many are transient and leave because Miami is too expensive. Of course, in that industry it's easy to find another one to quickly replace you. So, come to Miami and find out for yourself how we live, work and play before making such ignorant comments.

Cubans came here illegally by the thousands during the 1980's. It was a bunch of criminals that Castro put in boats called "balsas" and sent them to America. Remember Scarface? That was very true. And if a Cuban comes here illegally and cries that they hate communism they are given free food, free apartments and free money by the government for life....so they are a bigger burden on us than most Mexicans!

In Florida, the $309 million spent educating illegal immigrants for one year could:

Eliminate the need to cut $120 million from K-12 schools, with $190 million to spare.
Fund the state summer school program for underachieving and gifted students for six years. The program is currently facing cuts due to state budget shortfalls.

Conclusion
As states cut school funding left and right, all of our children—native-born and immigrants alike—are receiving a poorer education as a result of the federal government passing its immigration law enforcement failures on to the states. The implications for the coming generations of workers, our future economy, and our long-term competitiveness in the world cannot be ignored

If you are a Cuban all you have to do is touch US soil and you're in. Isn't it a little arrogant of you to look down on people who only want the same treatment you got? If Cubans really wanted freedom, and were willing to die for it, Cuba would be free too - but I guess it was easier for you to come here and become a critic of a problem as opposed to a solution.

It's good to know who you are and to take yourself seriously instead of being lumped into the illegal invasion of our nation. I do hope you can have a free Cuba one day. Thank you for your appreciation of our nation. It's rare these days.

they will say anything and call names to people to try and justify them being illegal. they are just haters that you are not on their side. they think you should be because you are not white or black. they will eventually start calling you racist. i have friends who are mexicans and legal. the illegal mexicans call the legals racist. go figure. they need to realize illegal is not a race.

that is awesome that your aware of your heritage and still love the country your in. your going to catch flak because you embrace america and still recognize where your from. mexico does have staunch immigration laws and its funny how they want to say they deserve so much for coming here by jumping a fence and then have their own country be a huge hypocrite. grats to you for standing your ground.
