Pipe smokers have definite tastes in tobacco. Captain black isn't a bad choice. Try a few different ones, you may like Cavendish blends. They are very aromatic because of the aging process used. If you decide you enjoy a pipe and you are near a larger city you may be able to find a tobacconist ( The Tinder Box ) that help you come up with a blend to suit your taste.

even though im not a smoker myself, i have an od friend who's an expert in pipe tobacco smoking. he taught me the best way to smoke a pipe tobacco even though i didn't tried it yet. the answer your looking for, and probably the best one is The beginner pipe can be any pipe. On the initial bowl, just coat the inside of the bowl with a thin layer of honey. Then, on the second, third and fourth bowls, you can also coat the inside with honey, and [the heat] transforms the honey to sugar to carbon. That’s what you’re looking to build up on the inside of a pipe, the carbon buildup. When a bowl is seasoned or “broken in” your pipe will begin to taste more like what you’re smoking.

WHY NOT KEEP THE PIPE AS A SHOW PIECE AND LIVE LONGER ? DOING THE SAME , FOR THOSE AROUND YOU ?
