this one i am expert at. i used to have those so much when i was young. i also watched a doctor cut part of nail out cause someone didnt' go to fast and it got infected and could have been really bad. here goes. i fyou have one right now. the only think you can do is cut a V in the middle of the toe where the ingrown is. now you have to keep this like that till it (sides) grow up and then get clippers that are straight and cut it straight. do not cut curved by the sides. but staright. if you keep your toes like that you shouldn't have much trouble take care. the V cut just takes the pain out for abit so it will grow and heal.

Don't! My boyfriend screwed around with his so bad that his toe turned black...it was awful...he had to have it removed by a podiatrist, and did the procedure that kills the root of the nail. Don't screw around with it! Some of the other remedies people mentioned might work...but if they don't...you could end up worse than you started. To avoid them in the future, cut your toenails straight across and not too short...i.e. the corner of the nail should be free, not down below the end of your toe. Be careful with this...it seems like something simple to fix at home that lots of people do but on the off chance that it gets messed up you will be so sorry. Good luck!

The normal procedure is for the nail to be completely removed. This can be done by your doctor or at a hospital. It is a painful but quick procedure and your toe will have to be dressed for about 2 weeks. However, if removing the nail doesn't solve the problem and the nail returns ingrown, you need an operation to remove some of the root. This has to be done by surgery but will solve the problem permanently.

I had an ingrown toenail. I tried the home remedies...the v-shaped cut, trimming the nails straight across instead of rounded...I even went as far as using the toothache stuff to numb it and dug it out. I ended up having to go to a podiatrist and having him cut it out from the base up...yeah it looks a little funny, but it sure beats the pain! He numbed it up and just cut it right out in his office....AHHHH... that's how you spell relief!

I wouldnt recommend doing it yourself, ive heard you can cut a v-shape into the nail and leave it for a few days. However as i say i wouldnt recommend it, go see your GP, maby they can cut it for you properly, or likewise they can tell you if its grown too far in and you will need to see a proper doctor, good luck with it.

Please go to your doctor. It will help you and your toe. There is no.. MAGICAL way of cutting an ingrown toenail but they give you local anesthetic because it is so painful.

Cut straight across. Don't try to "dig" or you'll make it worse. If it's already really bad, see a doctor.

Two of my best friends are podiatrists and they do surgery on those a lot. This makes me wonder if you should be doing that yourself.
