Well I think it may stem from trying to be celebate...and well you're still going to have the urge to have sex no matter how much you try deny yourself of it. It would have to start to drive you crazy at some point. Then I guess they see the little boys as being someone they can control and keep from saying anything and bam pedophile.

Okay. First, this stereotyping of all priests as pedophiles has got to stop. It's sick. No, it is not some kind of tradition. I will say a ton of it is because of the media. I'm not denying the scandal, but I don't see the news splashing pictures of pedophiles from the protestant side like they do with Catholics yet the numbers for the protties are much higher.

Second, pedophilia is everywhere. Doesn't matter what race, religion, or gender you are. If people would concentrate their prayers on that, maybe we'd begin to see an end to it.

No, it's no more a tradition in the Catholic church than in any other faith in which leaders have committed pederasty. Nor is it a tradition in marriage, since most pedophiles are married (at least at some point).

Pedophilia is a sickness classified in the DSM, the handbook for psychologists. It occurs far more often in men than in women, and hence it should be expected that rates in an all-male institution (Catholic clergy) should be higher statistically than in the population at large where men and women are mixed.

You misunderstand the full objective of excommunication. that's a medicinal punishment stated with the intention to make it sparkling that folk have made a smash with the religion. Surely, you must know better. Pedophilia is a form of sexual abuse and is an incurable mental illness as we have learned through the years. Some here have blamed celibacy of Catholic clergy as the cause but the evidence proves this theory to be false. Catholic clergy are the only Christian clergy who have the discipline of celibacy yet the incidence of Catholic clergy committing this crime and sin is the lowest among any Christian clergy. It is logical to assume that celibacy is a positive influence against sexual abuse. One is more likely to be sexually abused by a Baptist minister, Church of Christ minister, family member or a school teacher than a Catholic priest. Most statistics show that the incidence of sexual abuse among Catholic clergy is less than 1%.

EDIT... The Catholic Faith is attacked and ridiculed by the majority of other Christians,because they do not understand why it is different to other denominations.Because we honour Mary and pray to her intercession to God,we are told we are committing a sin. Because we have statues of religious figures ,we are told we are committing sins for idol worship.Because we believe in apparitions we are told it is not in the Bible so it is not true.They do not believe that we receive the body of Christ at Communion.They can't understand the Trinity .And of course when they read about sex abuse by Priests,they jump on the band waggon and rub it in to try to shame us. They no nothing at all about our religion.I have never criticised another religion about what they are doing wrong ,because i don't know. And yet they "know" all about Catholics. They are trying to save the souls of Atheists by telling them about God at the same time they are ridiculing Catholics.
