First, let me make clear that you don't owe Jesus anything for what he did for you. He is offering you a free gift.
Also, you need to understand what Jesus did and maybe this will help the following is the last few seconds of his life as recorded by John who was an eyewitness.
When he had received the sour wine, Jesus said, “It is completed!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit. (NET Jn 19.30)
The word completed is in the Greek, "tetelestai" which is a financial term meaning "settled" like in an account. As in paying a debt.
Now with Greek you can do some things that we can't with English and this is one. This word has the following grammatical construction: It is a perfect passive indicative.
Now what is important here is the perfect tense. What this means is that this debt has been payed completely and is in a perpetual state of totality.
Next the passive means that it was done for you by him.
That my friend is simply awesome! The more you know about the truth the more it will set you free. He wants you to have this new life. You don't owe him all the debt has been paid!

If you remember the time Christ was sacrificed, you will note that not only was sacrifice commonplace, but it was the law. God did not need Christ to die in order to forgive us. That was something that people needed, and apparently still do. God is quite capable of doing whatever He wants to do. I mean, after all He IS God.

Although Jesus was sinless,he suffered willingly for sinners.Though innocent,he accepted death to save the guilty.By dying he has destroyed our sins.By his rising he has raised us up to holiness of life. You owe him nothing .He has paid the debt for you.
