A 2008 calendar called "Men on a Mission" will be released showing mormon missionaries exposing their bodies. From an outsider perspective, I think it's okay, I don't think it will have a huge effect on how the world sees missionaries, not that some of them really care. And furthermore, it is for a good cause. Plus the photos are not taken in a bad manner if you know what i mean. What's your take on this, LDS people in particular?
If you do not know what this calendar is, here is the link:

All I can say is that those former missionaries are hot! I still won't join the church, not that I am against it or anything. I must admit however that this religion is very interesting.
Smile :)

i am a latter-day saint, and i personally do not have problems with those returned missionaries doing those things, just like what ethereal mentioned. i don't think i'll consider doing photos like those after my mission though. i'd consider doing actual direct labour rather than posing to collect funds for some charity. but that's just me.
well if i see the missionary who baptised me, or any of the missionaries i look up to posing on a calendar just like that, it would surprise me for sure, but i will still have the same respect for them i suppose. hey, they helped me turn my life around and taught me a lot of good things. but again that's just me.
we all are given agency. those blokes chose to do that for a good cause, or so they claim. does the ends justify the means? beats me. i leave judgement to Him who is all powerful and knowing.

I was raised LDS( currently inactive)and I currently reside near Salt Lake City, Utah. Based on what I know of the churches stance on morality and indecency they would probably have a problem with this, even though the pictures aren't pornographic. Maybe I'm wrong but I highly doubt the masses of return missionaries I know would ever do this. I personally don't have any problem with it, to each his own. I'm trying to relate that I think the LDS church would definately not condone this kind of activity.

I am not going to bother looking at your link, but I can assure you that if a returned missionary were to do something like what you claim, they would be disciplined by the church and possibly face excommunication.
The church would never endorse anything like this because it has strongly condemned pornography and other suggestive types of media.
As far as the LDS people are concerned, we are a pretty nice group of people!

I am LDS, served a mission myself several years ago. I do not agree with those who choose to pose for such a calendar. If their purpose was to draw attention to themselves and to the Church, their "mission" was accomplished, but I think there are much better ways to do that than the chosen course. My 2 cents.

I'm just glad that my missionary is a skinny computer programmer who doesn't have the muscles required to qualify for such a photo shoot. I'm selfish. I want him all to myself. I know that the photos aren't pornographic in the least, but . . . well . . . if I tried to explain, I'd just confuse the matter further. Let's just say that the photos make me kind of uncomfortable. The FAQ says that they're slightly stepping away from the rules about modest dress . . . that's more of an understatement than I care to elaborate upon. I guess what I'm really trying to say is that I'm not very comfortable with it. In theory it sounds great, but in practice it just doesn't feel right to me.

As long as they're not knocking on my door with their b.s., make all the calendars they wish.
