Component video has only 3 cables - Red, green, blue
There is also stereo audio (Red/white)
Make sure the output res matches the input (try 720p or 1080i first)

As far as I can understand your question, is the component your talking about a game console, right? Well , The component , i would think it has a red , white and yellow cable. Plus my guess its RCA plug type. The red and white cables are for sound only. Match them up to the opposite end to the TV on the back . There should be a back section of the TV call the "input jacks" you ll notice they are similar in colors the cables. Now the "Yellow" cable is for video, connect both ends, component to TV.
If they are all matched up, then make sure that the TV is set for the game function. Depending on your TV, it may just be as simply as switching the input select button, OR tuning your to TV to channel 2,3,4, or 5, who knows. Depending on the year and make of your TV,I suggest you look up on-line to see if you can download your TVs manual to see how to properly set your TV, if you can.

Also , you might want to check the cables. If the cables are old , get new ones.Cables are very delicate, the wires can easily break inside the insulation. Especially if you ever Yanked the cable.Which you cant visibly see the damage. Except in bad or no signal displayed on the TV. Go luck.
