I was wondering, how much does it cost to go get the adult testing for Asperger’s Syndrome? I was told that it was very expensive. I was also told that I may not need it., if a psychologist that specializes in it can diagnosis me with out needing the testing. Does anyone know where in Middle GA, I can find someone that specializes with adults with Asperger’s?

It can be really expensive - that's why I don't have a 'proper' diagnosis (my GP made a preliminary diagnosis, but that's it). You could try online at the Wrong Planet forum, they have a lot of contacts and Aspie-friendly doctors that can push you in the right direction.

Oh, and in rebuttal to the answerer above - not every Aspie has above average intelligence - it's distinguised by average to above average intelligence.

A member of my family has just been diagnosed with Aspergers syndrome at the age of 68. He was going to see the psychologist at our local NHS hospital as everyone thought he had problems with anger management. After the diagnosis everything makes sense. To answer your question you should first approach your GP and ask if you can be referred to a clinical psychologist, preferably one who specialises in ASD. If you cannot be referred on the NHS you will have to see a psychologist privately which will usually cost you at least £500. I have never heard of being tested for Asperger syndrome, only being diagnosed. If you think it will make a difference to be diagnosed then you could perhaps also try the National Autistic Society helpline as they do have contacts for psychologists who specialise in ASD. Good luck.

If you get tested for AS, make darn sure you also have an IQ test as well. Up until I had my own IQ tested, everyone thought I was considered "developementally disabled", with an IQ somewhere in the 70's. However, all that proved to be a bunch of "hog wash". It is infact above average. You might also want to see about being tested for food sensitivity issues as well.

I dont think there is a blood test that will confirm asperges. Asperges is usually diagnosed because of familiar behaviour that are associated with the disorder. Just go talk to a counsellor, they wil be able to pick up on your behaviours. If they consider it could be asperges, they will refer you to a psychiatrist.

The best place to get this info would be your local Autism Society office. If you can't find them in the phone book, your local school board will have the info.
