Yea, I wanted to make some cheddar cheese biscuits like I do all the time when we have BisQuick, but I'm out of Bisquick, and all the flour cheese biscuit recipes I find call for mustard seed, which I also don't have. Anyone have a good cheese biscuit recipe from scratch that requires normal ingredients?

Mustard seed isnt an important ingredient, chemical wise. It is only in there for flavor, so you can feel free to just leave it out of any recipie.
Heres the recipie the CCA uses:
shortening 14oz bread flour 20 oz
salt .75oz pastry flour 20 oz
sugar 2 oz baking powder 2.5 oz
milk 26 oz
1 cup=8 ounces 1Tbls= 1/2 ounce
Be careful with these measurements as they are by weight, not volume
Directions-1 sift together dry ingredients
2 cut in shortening by hand until mixture appears like coarse cornmeal.
3.combine liquid ingredients and add to mixture
4 mix just until a soft dough is form. do not overmix
5 knead the dough lightly by pressing it out and folding in half. rotate dough 90 degrees each time and repeat 10-20 times, until dough is slightly elastic.
6 roll dough out to about 1/2 inch thick and cut into desired shapes.
7 place unto greased baking sheet 1/2 in apart
8 bake at 425 for about 15-20 minutes
yields about 5 dozen biscuits

Beefy Biscuits 2 cups all purpose flour 1 cup cornmeal 1/4cup wheat germ 2 teaspoon beef bouillon powder 1/2 teaspoon yeast extract (adds additional meaty flavor) Mix above ingredients in a medium bowl. Add: 1 large egg, 1 tablespoon cooking oil 1 cup hot water. Stir well. Roll out on a well-floured surface to 1/2 inch thickness. Place on ungreased cooking sheet. Bake on center rack, (275 F. or 140 C) for about 2 hours until dry and very hard. Let stand overnight to dry thoroughly. Makes 10 big bones and 14 puppy bones.

Can't you just leave the mustard seed out? It doesn't seem like an essential ingredient. Those biscuits are yummy. I'd go get some Bisquick and learn to keep it on hand. ;o)

I just printed out this recipe from Kraft Foods on 10/17 because I thought it looked so good. It's called Easy-Bake Cheddar Biscuits. I'm going to make them when my nephew comes over for dinner next Sunday.

Hope you enjoy!
