It's pathological compulsion, that's why. Like drinking, over eating, stealing etc. she can't help herself. You can't stop it because she can't or won't stop it. Very sad to stand by helpless and all. Therapy and counseling may be the only means for a remedy. In the meantime get to know what you're up against and take the proper measures to deal and protect yourself. Research the brain process especially the actions of the hypothalamus which is the control center of desires and addictions.

The problem with liers is that if they get away with it they will continue. Tell her the truth about what you will do if you catch her lying...im not talknig a threat you wont back up. If she then lies again... follow through with the truth you told her.
If enough people make her deal with the conciquences of her lies she will stop or be totally alone.
If you tolerate her lying... your condoning it.

She may have Narcistic Personality Disorder, which causes her to manipulate the people around her with lies, sexuality, etc. This results in her being a compulsive liar.
I had one in my family, didn't even realize how bad it was, thought it was just a quirk of hers until I married a psychologist, and learned that she was sick. The more I spoke to her friends and our other family members, the more damage I realized she was doing, partly out of jealousy for the attention I was getting when I got married.
These people don't care about anyone but themselves. They create havok in their lives and the lives of those around them. They can't own up to failure, age, or any true aspect of themselves. Their lives are often turmoil, and it's usually someone elses fault. They need affection, respect, pity...and will say anything to get it.
I haven't told you what to do about it, but I hope I gave you some info to what the problem is.
Good luck.

Ask for counseling because truth is both a touchy and relative phenomena. For example, truth to some people is saying what they think someone else wants to hear. Truth can also and often is a doctrine, or an organized opinion. Truth is personal also, your truth is probably not my truth, and objective truth is found in the "eye of the beholder!"
Find out what that means if you don't already know the idiom.

I agree with the answer above. Insecure people usually lie. Sometimes people lie to get attention and honestly they don't even realize they are lying. Pathological lying I don't know if can be helped without help, counseling. Its a serious "disease."

Because she's a compulsive liar. She'll never stop. Lie to her one day and see how it makes her feel.

stay down-to-earth. you may give off an overly superior vibe, therefore she feels the need to lie so much to keep up with you.
