I'll give you a piece of advice that, if known by all men, would make you all very powerful chick-magnets indeed!
Talk about her.
Ask how her day was, how she felt, how her lunch was, if she had fun. Sympathise when she says she wore the wrong shoes and they hurt her feet. Be concerned when she talks about the woman at work who drives her mad, let her know you care and then try to cheer her up. Not by being too much of a clown, but with gentle humour. Listen to her, not just nodding along, thinking about football or sex, but really listen.
And if you do, you'll find that a lot of subjects to talk about come up naturally, she'll be happy and relaxed cos you've listened for 5 or 10 minutes, and be willing to talk about anything. Talk about your favourite books and hers. Favourite music, art, cars, team, whatever. She'll be willing once she's got off her chest anything that was bothering her.
Good luck!

Why do people need a constant flow of conversation? Honestly, I'm a pretty talkative person, but get me in a car and I have nothing to say. I just watch the world drive by at 70 miles an hour in my own thoughts. These moments are only "awkward" because you feel you have to entertain the person you are with. Silences are good too.

Well, find more things in common to talk about, but, keep in mind that there is such a thing as a 7 minute lull...this means that after about 7 minutes there will be a lull in the conversation...it is normal.

Play music you both know the words to and start signing along during the quiet times. Talk about tv shows, work, school, movies, family that drive you crazy, classmates or coworkers that bug you both, etc.

play music. ask her about her day. ask her random questions about herself. or suggest that she tell you something about herself you don't know, if you can't think of anything to ask. if that doesn't work, think of something to comliment her on. not only will that start the evening off right, but you'll also seem sweet and perceptive.
