Marines run in my family and Jarheads is not an offensive saying. That's what they are and they call themselves that. As far as what the term for Army, they are mainly know as Grunts.

We are Marines....the "only" thing that pisses us off is women being battered and children being abused! OH.....and last call at closing time!! The term,"GRUNT" does not refer to all army people. GRUNTS are the "Ground Pounders". The people who hump(walk all their gear) into the AO. Marines are grunts...and damn proud of it too! Personally...I loved being chopped in to our "area of operation" but we always humped out. I guess another name for army people is "DOG FACE". I work at Ft. Bragg with the Army. I am proud of every "Soldier" I rub shoulders with and I wish I could watch their 6 in the field. If you are going into the Army.....I wish you all the luck at being the best you can be!
Keep your podwer dry......
Go Navy.......Beat Army!!

It is not offensive to refer to Marines as "Jarheads", but only certain people can use the term.

Generally Sailors can use "Jarhead" and Marines can say "Squid", but we don't like other people, including Army or Air Force to use those terms.

When someone calls a marine a jarhead to his face there is usually no violence involved. Its become a sort of term of endearment.

If you are not in the military and you call a Marine that it is offensive. Calling each other nick names is only allowed between members of the military because we acknowledge each others service and we know it is genuinely meant in good fun. As for what "they" call Army Soldiers, we (in the US Air Force) call Soldiers simply grunts or knuckle dragers. Having served with all branches in combat I respect my brothers and sisters in arms too much to make much fun of them these days. God bless them all.

After marines get out of basic no verbal assults of any kind can **** them off. If they do kick your as.s for it its just because they wanted to but they are not really angry or anything.

I would think that a Marine would be man enough not to be offended by anything.

Of course not. They don't really get it.
Call them Naval Infantry, that might.
Truth hurts.

no big deal, being tough enough to earn the name is all that matters, and folks that think that it's an insult, know they couldnt earn the name.
