Yeah, I took it to the bank and they held it under a blue light and said it was a forgery. You probably got a letter saying to call a certain number to confirm getting it after you deposit it, so they want you to refund it when they sent it to the 'wrong' person. You write them one of your checks, and theirs bounces.

No, but if you have no idea why you would recieve such a check, if i was you i would look up the telephone number for the address and give them a call to verify the validity of the check!!! If the check is legitimate then the address should be correct and you should have no problem contacting them, considering it is claimed to be from the Dept of State!!! If you are unable to contact them, i would not cash the check. good luck!!!

Looks like one of those 'loan' checks where once you deposit it ,
The 'loan' is processed and you start getting bills with some very high interest .
Or it is totally bogus and they will be requesting a 'fee' that you pay before you find out it bounces .

Ask your local police to check into it as you suspect it is fraud .

No I haven't - but please do not cash it. Call the bank it was drawn on first to see if it is legit! I personally believe it to be a scam. But check it out - you have nothing to lose but a huge bunch of money if it is bogus! Good luck!

I never have, but I wouldn't trust anything I got in the mail from someone I don't know. I'd return to sender or deposit in the nearest circular file cabinet.
