How would you respond to that person?

I'd just tell them flat out, "If you're trying to hurt me, its not going to work, because I never have and never will give a crap about what you say about me." Simple as that, because its true.
I know who I am, who cares if other people do?

Spead rumors? Why would anybody do that? Well, in high school you don't do that because where I come from you spread a rumor and you're going to get your *** kicked, I am sorry for putting it in those words, or nobody cares what you did or who you slept with. Depends what kind of rumor it was. Who cared what the heck you did? Just ignore them then don't take crap from them.

Responding to the rumor is just what the person wants. Ignore the rumor because that's all they are. Rumors.

you can control your own integrity. you cannot control what other say about you. reacting to a rumor usually just feeds the fire. i would ignore it altogether (easier said than done but i have to good fortune of not caring much what others think of me) if it's something that is really hurting you you can talk to a school counselor. or if the rumor spreader is/was a friend, you could tell them that what they did was juvenile and hurtful. it really depends on the situation. but if possible ignoring them and the rumor is the best way to handle it, rise above it and it will fall away.

Honey, a rumor is a tale. If your friends are telling you tales about what is being said about you. Leave. They do not care about your feelings. And if someone is talking about you for sure, then your friends started it, friends are your real enemies. But remember a rumor is a tale. And tale is also a ***. So sit on it and think. Is what they say that important to you? You only have yourself to answer to, unless you are a minor, then your parents just have to trust you. Look up and smile.

They do it all the time. What goes around will come around. You could either take the high road and ignore it, it will go away or do a fair turn on them and spread a worse rumor about them.

Nothing will bug them worse than if you hold your head high and ignore them.

Speak openly to anyone you're worried will believe it and set them straight. Others will begin to see that the person who started the rumor is pathetic.

That ought to do.

Hahahaha, that's happening to me all the time.

I don't do anything. I'd talk to my best friend about it, but I wouldn't go over & spread a rumor 'bout her/him. Cuz if I did, I'd be a total hypocrite.

I would just tell them you do not know why they are saying untrue things about you and ask why. Then hear them out and then let it go. If asked about it just tell the truth and leave it at that. You can not let it get to you, you have to act as if it does not bother you at all. Then in a little while everyone will move on to something else. =)

Don't even give it any thought. If you say something to the culprit you are just doing what they want you to do. The thing is, they want to make you mad and see you upset. If you pay no attention and act as if it doesn't bother you at all and be above that drama, you come out as the mature one

Dear one, that is the height of immaturity! I would say very few words to him/her and to noone else about it.... You can't spread words of wisdom to a fool.
If he/she come up to you, simply quietly say, "I have nothing to say to you." and walk away. Say NOTHING to anybody about the rumor. The more you stir the more it stinks! OK.
