Now a days women are trained to avoid strangers on the street. If a man came up to me when I was walking down the street, I would probably freak out unless it was in a well populated area during the day. The grocery store is a much safer environment.

Grocery Store wins by a mile. Groceries bring a lot of people together and conversations happen for real. When a woman goes to the grocery store she is buying the best food she can. A conversation would start something like this. "Mam are you really making lamb chops. Oh what do you serve with it.?" So on and so on. You see it's really very simple.
Or do you know where the soups are? Then with a ligitimate question you can start getting to know her.

I feel like a grocery store is a better choice. Except if it looks as though she is buying mass quantities of food...that indicates she has a family at home that she is shopping for. You must do some undercover peaks at the goods in the cart. And by goods I mean groceries =)

At the grocery store you can casually ask a woman a question how to cook a particular item or how to select the best bunch of broccoli or whatever. If you can work that into a longer conversation, you are on your way.

If picking up a woman is on your list ,then grocery store is better as I like single window clearance system. It saves time, has quality items and you may get a discount too (like buy two and get one free. you know what I mean?).
