I'm16 and about to start taking Zoloft (25 mg for 3 days then up it to 50 mg) for major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. Would it be alright to take Flintstone's Complete Vitamins also?? Do you think it would interfere with the Zoloft?? Any help would be appreciated!

In response to dead eyes - I am in weekly therapy. My therapist asked my mom and me if I wanted to try antidepressants. My psychiatrist prescribed me Zoloft. And no I am not too young for antidepressants.

I take zoloft and I also take a daily multivitamin. As long as your flintstone vitamins don't contain any grapefruit (and according to the ingredient list on flinstonesvitamins.com, it does not) you'll be fine. Zoloft and other SSRI's like it do not interact well with grapefruit.

You can find lists of drug interactions on websites like Yahoo! health or WebMD. Just plug in "zoloft" and "drug interactions" in the search engine. Also, your pharmacist will be able to answer any questions, as well. As far as what I've read, as long as you're not taking lithium, St. John's Wort, or any of the MAOI's, you're fine.

Zoloft And Vitamins

I read the details section on my bottle of Zoloft and it says nothing about vitamin use.
For a more personable answer though, I can say that I have taken vitamins with Zoloft, but I got tired of taking them because it was too much of an effort taking just the Zoloft. I guess the stuff made me incredibly tired. I stopped taking it last week and I can't really tell if I feel better or worse yet. Supposedly I am over my conditions.
Hope that helps.

To be absolutely certain about possible drug interactions, check with a pharmacist.

In general, it is my understanding that a multi-vitamin should not interfere with Zoloft.

You should begin to notice a positive difference in how you feel in about a month, Zoloft will give full effect in about 6 weeks. From there, on you should feel a continual improval in your ability to function.

I don't know how good all vitamins are. They also make liquid type vitamins..a powder you can put in orange juice or milk at a health food store...or you can get those ready made drinks at any store that say they have vitamins. I just have trouble putting faith into anything that says Flintstone. I could be wrong..that's just me. I don't know how old you have to be to take adult vitamins.Just be sure and eat something with them or they can make you feel nauseated. (at least they do me)

I used to take Zoloft and also multivitamins, so it's ok.

It really shouldn't, but read the instructions that come with your prescription if you're concerned.

Who is perscribing this to you?? You are too young for antidepressants, hon. They have really nasty side effects. Look into counseling for your anxiety & depression, please.
