...and that the angels were actually angels?

I have studied Islam for some time, but I have a question I cannot seem to find the answer to in any Islamic texts, so I would appreciate your input.

To begin with, the prophet of Allah tells us that all prophets and messengers had had false verses cast on their tongues before:

Qur'an 22:52 "Never did We send a messenger or a prophet before you, but, when he framed a desire, Satan threw some vanity into his desire: but Allah will cancel anything (vain) that Satan throws in."
OR
"He recited (the message) Satan proposed. But Allah abolishes that which Satan proposes."
OR
"Satan made a suggestion respecting his desire; but Allah annuls that which Satan casts," OR
"whose recitations Satan tampered with, yet Allah abrogates what Satan interpolates; and Allah will confirm His Signs/Revelations."

Furthermore, Muhammad confessed that devils possessed him, at least temporarily:

Muslim:C14B39N6759 "Aisha, the wife of Allah's Apostle, reported: ‘Allah's Messenger left my apartment during the night. Then he came and he saw me in an agitated state.' He said: "Aisha, what has happened to you? Do you feel jealous?" I said: "How can it be that a girl like me would not feel jealous in regard to a husband like you? Thereupon Allah's Messenger said: "It is your devil who has come to you." I said: "Allah's Messenger, is there a devil with me?" He said: "Yes." I said: "Is there a devil attached to everyone?" He said: "Yes." I said: "Allah's Messenger, is there a devil attached to you also?" He said: "Yes."'"

Muslim:C14B39N6757 "Allah's Messenger said: ‘There is none amongst you with whom is not an attaché from amongst the jinn, a devil.' The Companions said: ‘Allah's Messenger, is there a devil with you too?' Thereupon he said: ‘Yes, but Allah helps me against him so I am safe from his hand and he does not command me but for good.'

Ishaq:166 "‘You have recited to the people that which I did not bring to you from Allah, and you have said that which He did not say to you.' The Messenger was grieved and feared Allah greatly. So Allah sent a revelation to him, consoling him and making light of the affair. He informed him that there had never been a prophet or messenger before who desired as he desired and wished as he wished but that Satan had cast words into his recitation, as he had interjected them on Muhammad's tongue and into his desires."

Ishaq:166 "Then Allah annulled what Satan had cast, and established his verses by telling him that he was like other prophets and messengers. Every Messenger or Prophet before you recited the message Satan cast into his recitation. Allah abrogates what Satan casts. Then Allah established his verses.'"

My ponderings are these: did Allah tell Muhammad that he was devil-possessed? If so, how did Muhammad know that this was Allah (or Gabriel), and not one of the dastardly devils that he knew had already possessed him -- or some other, equally evil creature, possessing him anew, but in the guise of a heavenly angel?

Please help, I’m very confused!

There is nothing to be confused about. Muhammad had no way of knowing who he was dealing with. He did not have enough understanding of Christianity to know that a spirit can be tested to see if it is from God. The spirit has to confess that Jesus is in the flesh. If it doesn't, then it is not an Angel of our Lord. islam denies Jesus is the Son of God because the spirit that spoke to Muhammad denies this! It's not from God. Besides, Muhammad first heard of the Angel Gabriel from his first wife's cousin. He just ran with that idea.

Muhammad was afraid of the spirit. Muhammad thought he was a "poet or possessed" after meeting with the spirit. Muhammad was suicidal. Muhammad had seizures. This is common knowledge.

Muhammad did NOT follow the prophets of God. If he did, he would not have killed his enemies, as Jesus told us to love our enemies and turn the other cheek. Muhammad murdered, not only killed in self defense. There is nothing godly about that.

God Bless.

I am Muslim and proud of it. Have you ever noticed that it is the Christians bashing the Muslims and not the other way around? We don't discredit Jesus (PBUH) or Abraham (PBUH) and if you really want to know our faith, please don't listen to the news. It is all lies. Go to a Mosque, read a newer translation of the bible that has been published since new information has been found. If you took the time to do a little research, you would find that indeed Christianity was organized by Paul. There were other gospels besides just his, but they were not put into the bible. Also, all of the books that were said to have been written by Paul were not. Do some research people. If you do it with an open mind it will bring you closer and closer to Islam, the one true religion.

BAD BOY ROCKY~~~~: what are you going to do about it, exactly? Is your religion of peace going to permit you to stop somebody from asking questions? Those are valid questions taken from your holy book, and if you had a mind capable of thought you'd actually take the time to think out an answer, instead of responding the way you did. The asker asked a sincere question and deserves a sincere answer.

First i would like to thank the non muslims for answering what they have no knowledge of ..amazing and second my dear i think you are reading the translation of Quran to English without actually asking someone who understand it well..
Prophet Mohammed PBUH came with the message that we ( muslims) have to believe in all other messengers of Allah or you can call him God too it's all one btw..we believe in Jesus PBUH just as we believe in Moses PBUH and Abraham PBUH and all of them. and i would like to refer you to someone who would answer your Questions gladly and properly sometimes those translations can be confusing but never the oroginal verses they are the same since 1429 years ago.

Prophet Mohammed was never possesed i am not sure where you got that from but anyway if you are really interested then you can check on these websites i ll list for you and hopefully it ll help ..

and to the folks answering you Q please don't repeat what you hear about islam from FOX News if i want to know about Christianity i would go to a religious Christian or to a church i wouldnt try and get the negative stuff from elsewhere..islam isnt what Fox News tell you nor is what you see on TV in general..

What you said " Muhammad confessed that devils possessed him, at least temporarily" can't be proven frrom the hadith mentioned. Its exactly opposite.

If you are a christian and this how you are going to accept anything. Can you prove that whole christianity and perticularly teaching of paul is not from satan. Whatever criteria you apply to prove christianity, let's apply same to Islam.

Islam is a false religion influenced by demons to lead people to Hell. There is only one true God and His name is not Allah, His name is
YAHWEH and
YAHUSHUA is His Son.
