Perseverance is in other words continuing to do x in spite of strong opposition (external or internal) not to do so.
You can apply this word to any setting. Paul calls us to perseverance of following Christ on daily basis in spite of the opposition.

What the Bible says about Perseverence
Perseverance reveals genuine believers.
"All men will hate you because of Me, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved." Mark 13:13, NIV
Perseverance reveals genuine faith.
"But Christ, God's faithful Son, is in complete charge of God's house. And we Christians are God's house—He lives in us!—if we keep up our courage firm to the end, and our joy and our trust in the Lord." Hebrews 3:6,
Victory is promised to those who persevere.
"No, dear brothers, I am still not all I should be but I am bringing all my energies to bear on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God is calling us up to heaven because of what Christ Jesus did for us." Philippians 3:13-14,
2 Tm 3:14-4:2
Beloved:
Remain faithful to what you have learned and believed,
because you know from whom you learned it,
and that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures,
which are capable of giving you wisdom for salvation
through faith in Christ Jesus.
All Scripture is inspired by God
and is useful for teaching, for refutation, for correction,
and for training in righteousness,
so that one who belongs to God may be competent,
equipped for every good work.
I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus,
who will judge the living and the dead,
and by his appearing and his kingly power:
proclaim the word;
be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient;
convince, reprimand, encourage through all patience and teaching.
