She is 30 years old, married, and she has a new baby. I am petrified when she comes to our house. She opens drawers in our bedroom, takes things she wants without asking, and I am over it.

I have caught her red-handed before. I sat her down and had a talk to her, but I still don't trust her. She doesn't have a key to our house, but does visit. I think that our bedroom and bath is off limits since we have other bathrooms that she could use. She just doesn't get it. I can catch her and she will look me straight in the eye and lie about it.

I also have a cat that stays mostly in our bedroom. She needs to get out to use the litter box, so I have hesitated to lock it. May have to get another litter box and lock the door. But she still wouldn't get it.

I think your spouse should speak to the daughter....and tell her that it has to stop or she will NOT be allowed over again. It's time to put BOTH feet down and get strict with her... after all, look what she is teaching YOUR GRAND-DAUGHTER to do!!!!!!!!! Do you want that CHILD coming to see grandma and grandpa and taking YOUR belongings just because her MOM does it????? You have to be firm and it MAY mean you can't see your grandchild for a while but if it teaches the stepdaughter to stop ripping you off, then it will be WORTH it.

Make it very obvious to her that she is only allowed in certain rooms and if she needs to go to other rooms, she will have to have someone with her. You can either take control of the situation or just sit back and whine about it. Good Luck. If she is caught red handed, make a police report about it.

Hell, i'm having hassle with my 10 year previous daughter continuously mendacity and a few stealing. I easily have taken each and every thing faraway from her and point-headed her for weeks. change the locks at your house of put mini cameras and then when you see them on camera you can bring it to the police or talk to them about it but dont be angry when you do because they would think that they could do the same

Relative or not, if I can't trust someone, I don't invite them into my house. Since she's an adult, you don't owe her a place to stay. Tell her she'll be welcome to return for visits when you know you can trust her.
