Since it is touted as a competition and a sport, It would seem that many derive pleasure from it. When all the quibbling, artful contrivances and euphemisms are put to one side, however, the bald fact is that two men (and now women) have trained, and are paid, to pummel each other for a lengthy period of time. Despite the 'gentlemanly' rules, the point of the match is to use skill and strength to beat up another human being. And it is the considered opinion of many that this is entertainment.
Is it normal? For many, "abnormal" is normal. For many, black became white long ago and white is black. Wrong is the new right. And right is boring.

LIsten you hit a nerve here. I was watching two people one a child the other night play a violent game where two fighters were killing each other. It is so real now that they show blood etc. in the games. At that to the hundreds of killings kids see a week on the TV. and then ask why our children and adults are so violent. I am of the opinion after studying behavioural psycology, that we are creating an immoral perverted society and it is happening under our nose. WE are also seeing the results with school shootings etc.
Will it change? NO one has the will to make it change.
Is there a need to do something different? Yes there is.
If Jesus does not come back to judge the world and change it soon we are obligated to create an ulternate society to bring this about. I am not so sure that was not his intension when He left us here the first time... I think we missed the last few words or at best misunderstood.
Keep asking the question.
I believe that the conservative Mennonites might be the closest thing to trying. I just wish they would not be so traditional in other ways.
Mennonite for truth.

No one in boxing wants to see the other boxer seriously, permanently, or fatally injured. Boxing has doctors, referees, protective gears, and coaches just in case something happens to a boxer. Also there are many health restrictions and strict rules or regulations before, during, and after boxing so that every boxer does their job safely as possible. Boxing is just a sport like any other sport out there, only boxers don't use a ball to score in this sport, they use boxing gloves.

Hmm, that's like saying ' what pleasure do you get from watching a bunch of guys playing with a stick, ball, and a hole?' (I'm talking about golf of course). In other words it is so much more than that. For example; when you see Ali dodging a barrage of punches or see Tiger Woods shooting a hole in one and in you're awe. That right there is what sports is all about!

There's skill involved. Watch for yourself, preferrably where one fighter is better than the other. You'll see how the better fighter throws punches cleaner, dodges, goes into attack, withdraws, etc. He would also move around, create angles for the attack and make the opponent throw wild punches and open up. So, to answer your questions- it's gamesmanship. You see people engaging in strategic battles where a combination of intelligence, skill and strong will leads to wins.

Do you ever watch little men sit on a horse's back and flog it so it will run as hard as it can, often breaking down so it is killed rather than treated and let to live out its natural life?
Do you watch auto racing hoping to see a crash?
Whether or not you want to see boxing is up to you, but in this sport both athletes are competing of their own free will.
There are far fewer and less serious injuries in boxing than in football, where under educated, steroid drugged men pound each other for an hour each week, rendering most of them invalids by the time they are 50.
So seek your pleasure where you will and try not to talk about something you know little or nothing about.
