I have a very questioning friend. We often get into talks about Christianity and his questions confuse me so much. I can never come up with a good answer or a solid answer and I was wondering if you could help. Please don't give Sunday school answers...really think about it.

1)What proof is there that God really exists? Like he believes that there has to be some sort of higher being, but what proof is there that the God of Christianity IS the true God. I mean, Allah could have made the universe right?

2) Lets say there is a sixty year old millionare who has 2 or 3 grown children, a large house, no debt, etc. He has everything settled, no more children to raise, his is retired from his job, and a wife that he is divorced from. What reason is there that he should keep living? It would only benefit his children if he died and he has nothing else to live for? WHy should he live?

Ok please dont say that there ISN'T a god. There has to be. I know that much. There are WAY to many coincidences to say that there isn't a God.

And another thing (sorry for all the additional details) But just saying that nature proves that God exists only proves that there is A god. Not that Jesus Christ is THE god

1) The best proof that God exists is to ask Him!!
Tell your friend to ask God to show Himself to him and then as Allah to show himself and see which one answers. He has got to be absolutely sincere in his quest, however.

2) This question is a rabbit chase. People ask this kind of question to cloud the issue. The real issue is what is he going to do about Jesus Christ.
None of this other stuff matters in the whole scheme of his life.

Ask him the following:
Jesus Christ, born of a virgin, died on the cross to save us from our sin, rose the third day to conquer death for us, ascended to heaven to prepare a place for us, and is coming back to get all who believe this.
Will you believe this?
Would you like to go with Jesus when He returns?

"1)What proof is there that God really exists? Like he believes that there has to be some sort of higher being, but what proof is there that the God of Christianity IS the true God. I mean, Allah could have made the universe right?"

God keeps the proof. At the end of John 15, and in the midst of John 16, Jesus promises the Holy Spirit to those who trust Him. It's by the Holy Spirit that God tells us of Him, and by the same Spirit His voice is heard. As Jesus said:
16I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. ( John 10 )

We know His voice.

"2) Lets say there is a sixty year old millionare who has 2 or 3 grown children, a large house, no debt, etc. He has everything settled, no more children to raise, his is retired from his job, and a wife that he is divorced from. God chooses the time for us all to live and die.

By asking this question, your friend seems really weird.

1) Though many people choose not to believe this. Allah and the Christian Father are the same. History tells us (in the bible too) that the split of the two faiths started way back when Abraham had two sons: Isaac and Ishmael. Also, there is not concrete proof that God exists. One can have faith in his existence, and one can see all the proof that he/she needs, but in the end, there is no concrete evidence to hold a belief in someone or something that you cannot completely see/hear/touch/smell/taste. Even some of the most famous Christians had doubts in God's existence (i.e. Mother Theresa).
2) He still has the chance to benefit others by his life. Volunteering and participating in charities is something that many retired people live for. His children don't have to get his money when he dies. If I am not mistaken, Carnegie gave every last penny of his money to charity and died penniless, even though he was the first millionaire in American history.

You've asked questions that deal with the very nature of life, faith, and meaning therin. If anybody figures out the answer, I suspect they will achieve true enlightenment and transcend into a superior being of some sort on the spot.

1. From a scientific standpoint, none. Even if you establish via fatih that the universe much be more then random entropy and was forged by a devine hand, you then have to address what the name of that hand was.

2. He should live for himself. There is much good he can do in the world, for himself and for others. Just because he's succeed for providing for others and continuing his genetic legacy doesnt mean he's done all there is to do.

1. There is no empirical proof. Most of our proof comes from having personal experiences with God. I accept that kind of proof is usually not enough to for other people, but that's okay ... because I'm not trying to convince anyone else.

2. Because you don't become worthless just because you aren't married, don't have children to raise, or a job to perform. There are plenty of other things to make your life meaningful. I don't know how old you are, but many times when you have children, your entire life gets put on hold. He can spend his remaining years doing the things he enjoys. Pursuing goals he never got to accomplish when his primary responsibilities were being a husband, father, and breadwinner.

And who's to say that it would benefit his children if he died? Who's to say that his children don't have a good relationship with their father, and that he doesn't help them with what they need while he is still alive?

1:
Romans 1:20-23
"For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
"For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles."

2:
MAJOR PROBLEMS:
1. When you say, "it would only benefit his children if he died..." you are making an assumption that only through death can his children recieve his "benefit." Why can the children not ask him for some of his money? If he says no, he has the right to; he worked for the money. Why can he not enjoy it after spending his life for that money?
2. Though the old man may die his children might not be able to recieve any of his money. The old man may have it written in his will that all his money will go to a specific charity. Look at a book called The Testament.
3. Just because something is beneficial doesn't mean it is best. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Example: it might benefit (as a random example name) Tom if Bob was dead because Bob wouldn't let Tom buy Bob's house, but it would be completely immoral if Tom were to kill Bob for his house.
4. Before you can ask "Why should he live..." you must determine your view of the meaning of life. If you have the right to want the old man dead for his money why should he not have the right to want to be alive for his money?
5. Religion is also another goal to keep on living.
6. The gift of life can amount to no object of money. If we cannot give life, who are we to take something so prescious away. If we did not give him life we should not take it away.

1) The answer to this that your friend will respond to is dependant on his personality. For most of us, the proof is in what He has done in our lives and the lives of those we know.
If he is a very "scientific" minded person and wants "scientific" proof, then you/he may need to research the documentation that Jesus was a real person. There are ancient non-religious documents that mention Him. Also research the probability of one man fulfilling even a few, let alone hundreds of ancient prophecies that were fulfilled by Christ's life.

2) Life is sacred and just because we do not see one person's purpose or value does not negate it. If the person does not see their own purpose or value, that does not negate it, either. Our children, jobs, spouses and sizes of our house are not reasons to keep living. Life is a reason to keep living.

1. Well, Allah says that the Bible is corrupted, which historical evidence refutes. We know that Jesus is the true God because of the word of the apostles, they wouldn't lie, as they suffered terribly and died for their faith, would you suffer horribly for something you knew was a lie?

2. Suicide is a sin. And he may not be saved, so he should become saved before he dies.

1. There is no proof. Allah is the Arabic word for God.

2. He should live simply because he's entitled to it. All life has value.
