You remember the character 'Benny' from the first Mummy movie? I think that's a really elegant inadvertent refutation of Pascal's Wager, and the only non-idiotic thing in that entire movie.
Ah, I knew I was paying six bucks for great CG and no plot, I don't know why I'm complaining.

That makes sense. But let's limit it, for the moment, to the Christian God (which is the only one that people mean when they wield Pascal's wager). To me, it's a lame proposition because one doesn't arrive at real belief by weighing pros and cons. It's just silly.
"If I don't believe in (the Christian) God and he doesn't exist, no harm done; but if I don't and he does, I'm in trouble. Then I should believe."
I agree, if conventional Christian dogma is all true, I'm well screwed, but at no point in the argument do I arrive at "I actually believe".

Good point.
In some African cultures the people only worship gods who are seen as capable of harming them if angered. As a consequence the christian Jesus is ignored because he is seen as benign.

No it's not impossible. The wager states that it is better to believe in ONE God than none at all. It's still a ridiculous reason to believe in any God.

Considering the fact that Pascal was a Christian, he was probably talking about following the Christian God.

For such a smart guy, Pascal was an idiot.
The idea that there is no cost to celebrating a God that doesn't exist is to completely give lip service to celebrating.
If it costs nothing, its worth nothing.

Yes, it's impossible. When people say "Jesus is the only true God", they reveal that they, just like us, are incapable of taking a "chance" on that which we know to be nonsense. Of course atheists realize that the Judeo-Christian deity is also nonsense.

Yes, I would say it is impossible to follow. But not just because of all the gods...but because you can't MAKE yourself believe something that you don't believe. It's like trying to tickle yourself.

In fact, most of them are probably jealous. So I'd say the best bet would be to worship none of them. At least then if one of them is real, he/she/it won't be AS angry.
