I would get some triple antibiotic cream at Wal-mart or your pharmacy. My dog scratched a spot like that on her ear and every time I got it looking better she scratched again and got it messed up again. I just kept putting it on and it is finally healed. I would say if it doesn't look better after a day or two, call your vet. A bug might have bit her there to make her scratch hard enough to make a scab. Good Luck!

Ah - scabs ARE a skin condition! They're caused by a wound healing. The wound could be from intense scratching - most likely from fleas. Why do you think your dog doesn't have fleas? Most do if they aren't treated properly!

This could be fleas, mange, other mites, allergies, skin infection from scratching of any cause, as well as other stuff. You have to go to a vet to find out what it is, on here we can only guess.

Has he been chewing back there when you're not looking? That's my guess. You need to look a little closer to see if there's anything that a Vet should look at.

If it doesn't look too alarming, you may be able to get away with a little peroxide (warning; it'll change his fur color a little), Polysporin or Neosporin, and an e-collar/cone. It's got to be left alone so it'll heal so the cone will keep him from getting to it. Do the Polysporin 2-3 times a day.

If it doesn't start healing in a few days, then it's time for a Vet visit. I think he'll be okay, though.

Best of luck!
