I believe you would think that faith has no roll, absolutely...but, I do believe that God had an ulterior Motive for everything that takes place!!!! EVEN for people in an asylum.... One day they may come out and teach us a thing or two!!!
Just curious!! Did you ever hear that the people that are NUTTS are actually psychic and can see other beings which DRIVE them Nutts, things that a normal person will not see!!!.who knows..right???? (maybe they are like Sylvia Brown, yet, can't handle it!!!!)

This quote is not necessarily "anti-religion", all it is saying is that faith in anything, religious or otherwise, is not proof that it exists or that it will happen, eg. I have faith that I will get into uni next year, but that doesn't mean that I will. In a lunatic asylum there are many people who believe totally irrational things, some of which maybe completely opposed to things that are held to be true by society, this means having faith cannot be proof as both the lunatic and the person from outside the asylum have faith in their beliefs but for one to be true, the other must be un-true

I don't know the context of the quote. But if faith proved anything, it would be called proof and not faith. A casual stroll through life and the people around us could inspire the same sort of quote. An asylum would concentrate the aspects of individual faiths. Faith implies that something is true. Proof demonstrates that something is true. But the faith and truth of lunatics can get mixed, one for the other. And so it is with us all, if we abandon our logical minds.

I can't imagine except to think of why would you be taking a casual stroll through the lunatic asylum. However my interest has been piqued and so would love to see the answer.

If you,re strolling through an insane asylum, you may find people who believe that they are Napoleon or belive they are invisible.
The fact that they have faith in this doesn't mean anything.
They are not Napoleon and they are not invisible.

It is a common sentiment that having faith in something (particularly "God") means everything about a person's character. Nietzche points out that persons deemed insane often have faith, but they are still ostracized from society because, well, they're crazy. Faith proves nothing about the existence or nonexistence of something, nor does it reveal anything about a person's character.

It could mean that even though u have faith bad things can still happen to you. I dont think it has anything to so with not having faith or not believing in God. It just means that no matter how much faith you have, it is going to suck some times.

It's almost self explanatory-crazy people and fanatics believe in all sorts of weird, odd, things, and if they're stuck in some nuthouse it apparently ain't helping much. I haven't read the other replies yet (other than the first one) but there's a quotation from the bible-book of James, new testament-"Faith without works is dead." It's not what you say, it's what you do.

It means if you look at crazy people, they have faith that the martians are coming or that tin foil around your head keeps out bad brainwaves or that they are the Queen of Sheba. He means the believing in something does not make it so, no matter how strong that belief may be.

This quote, like almost every idiotic spewed from the mouth of this nazi is meaningless pap. Neitzche thought only in terms of the rest of the world being insane and himself being sane. that ought to tell you something.
i would say find another reading material; or explore another legitimate philosopher
