It's ok if you don't... but IF you don't, wouldn't it be wise not to argue about it considering you haven't a clue about the subject of the argument?

D D, I'm confused... who's suggesting that Google & Wikipedia are "the harbringers of all metaphysical knowledge"? I'm asking if people know what ERV's are without looking up the term.

I took Biology several times. Of course I know what it is; however, I know the Truth myself. I don't need to prove it to other people. That is the difference between you and me: Faith.

Endogenous retroviruses are a kind of retrovirus that are believed to have been acquired from ancient infections of the human germ cells, as well as the germ cells of mammals and other vertebrates. Because of this, their proviruses are passed down or inherited by the next generation and because of this it now resides in the genome. Retroviruses are viruses that can actually copy their RNA into DNA and then proceeds to integrate it into the genome of the host. In general, most retroviruses infect somatic cells, but there are also cases when some retroviruses can also infect germline cells. When this happens then the RNA integrated DNA genome is inherited by the next generation. Thus it is known as endogenous.
Endogenous viruses, because of the way they have been integrated into the genome can actually persist for a very long period of time – in fact, it can remain for tens of millions of years. The good thing though is that it only gets infectious for a short period time, usually after integration, since they get mutations that would have a “knockout” effect at the point where the host DNA is replicated. It is also possible for endogenous retrovirus to be excised (even though just in part) from the genome. This is done through a process called recombinational deletion.

im confused as to where people get the "billion of years" from? Can science explain where and how they calculated:
1. the wold being 4.5 billions years old.
2. How does the "string theory" fits into that "billions of years" without having the solid truth as to how the world was created.
even scientist themselves have said that the string theory can't possible work simply because they are too many levels that it exceeds past* i believe 11* and it must follow the big bang theory which it doesn't. But I could care less. I don't need fact to justify how I chose to live my life.

I'm not even a creationist and I don't know, but if I ever have a question on this topic I know where to go. (if you don't mind)
Addition: I find it rather funny that friendshipband demands proof of this yet accepts the words of a musty old book as a source of proof for his beliefs.

So, because out of approximately 30,000 (about 1%)retroviruses found in the human DNA we share 7 with chimps that makes us ancestors? I would hardly call that anything anywhere near proof! The only proof that you can ever provide me that will cause me to question Creationism is 1) to break the law of biogenisis and create life from non-life and 2) provide me with a complete fossil record of the evoution of one creature.

Again with the hard questions. You and Icarus should be ashamed of yourselves. ;-) These Creationists will be soooo angry after reading these that they won't be able to go to church tomorrow morning... and then they'll have to pray for forgiveness for missing the chance of hearing about how Noah had those T-Rex's on the Ark. Their heads just might explode from all of this.
And *Gasp* you WANT them to know about a subject before they debate it? Why, whatever for? =)

I doubt most people know what an endogenous retrovirus is. They would have little need to know.
Of course, if you talk as if you DO know and you DON'T, then you'd be exposing yourself as ignorant and dishonest. Not that creationists have any problem with being ignorant and dishonest.

Oh - I thought this was a discussion. We can certainly discuss things we don't completely understand. However I agree that it would be better to try to understand what we are talking about.

Well a retro virus is some type of backwards virus by DEFINTION, unless you are playing with worlds.
RETRO is backwards
Enogenous, not sure.
Geneous is some type
Not sure what endo means
Internal maybe
Internal type of backwards virus
Tell me, if EVOLUTION is correct then ONE DAY HIV will become AIRBORN
Ready for that one!
Ready to breath air and get HIV
It's a possibility based on BIRD FLU jumping to humans.
Ready to breath the air of a homosexual and get AIDS
Will that make you feel WARM inside!
Is that anything like endogenous retrovirus!
How about the current STAPH epidpemic that has no ANTI BACTERIAL solution
That make you feel warm inside
You ready for a STAPH infection with NO SURE CURE
That's evolution!
The microbe that exterminates humans!
Darwin says its possible!
Natural selection works ALL sorts of ways
You READY to be selected!
WE do say GOD works in mysterious ways and GOD has a plan for you.
Is extermination that plan!
If DARWIN is correct there is NO WAY OUT
When your time is up your time is up
It's as simple as that
There is no fighting, no praying, no faith, no solution.
You just get it and die.
