Although I am not Jewish, I (physically) appear to be - and I ALWAYS get people who condescendingly ask me if I'm a Jew, and then when I say no, they always seem relieved. I haven't really encountered this in bigger cities such as San Francisco.

I don't even look jewish, but I told someone (a christian) once while at a garage sale that I wasn't christian, and they asked me, "Well, if you ain't christian are you Jewish, then?" I said no, I'm an atheist, and they said "oh good, I never met no jewish people before." I don't think they understood what atheist meant, but were relieved that i wasn't a jew. I don't get it, and I didn't ask. But it is strange, I really don't understand where so much anti-semitism comes from.

There is essentially two reasons why Christians don't like Jews. The first reason usually stated is that the jews killed their 'savior'. Though under the concept, there wouldn't be a 'sin offering' if the jews hadn't killed 'Jesus'.b Which technically wouldn't have been the fault of the Jew, since it would be what god wanted to happen within the Christian philosophy.
Secondly, and personally I feel is the main reason, is that Jews do not accept 'Jesus' as their messiah nor their sin offering. Subconsciously, I feel that makes Christians 'question' or doubt their beliefs. Its only when Christian Propaganda spews all sorts of ickies about the jews, demeaning them, that they can validate their conceptual idols.
Basically, Jews aren't Christian, since pretty much every tenet of Christianity is listed as an abomination to god. The messiah was to be a 'king of kings" and a 'rebuilder of the Temple", not a sin offering

I haven't been to San Fransisco, but I've been to some relatively large cities, and I can tell you that it's not just small towns: anti-Semitism exists everywhere. Why? Because pompous idiots exist everywhere.
