1. Watch English news
2. Buy / Download audio books and listen to them
3. Make it a point to observe what they speak while watching English movies
4. Do not concentrate on word meanings, rather concentrate on how people use it while speaking.

The more you listen, the better you can speak. The best part is, allow yourself to make mistakes while you are speaking. After all, it is not your first language and you know you are making an attempt to make it better. So no need to be guilty.

Let say you want to learn Mandarin, you have to start like you do not know anything at the start. Slowly you have to pick it up.

We will have this feeling that we have studied English for many years. So we believe that we should have learnt English thoroughly. Hence we start to compare our self with others who does better than us. This is not true. People will learn only if there is a need.

Just think upon how many people really recall Geography they have studied all these years and fluent with that? On the contrast, almost many people are fluent in simple mathematics because they know they want to use in daily life.

My point is:
1.Focus on bringing up your self-esteem.
2.Listen more.
3.Do simple communciation every now and then with those knows english, even though you dont really have the need to talk in english.

I can assure you that you can speak well.

Even after taking lessons in a language one is not familiar with, a person will not be a "fluent" speaker of that language. The only way to become fluent in a language is to speak that language in every situation every day. People who know you are making every effort to become fluent will recognize that effort and will be patient with you. Refrain, if you can, from speaking any other language other than English.

I am a retired teacher who now does substitute teaching in elementary, middle school, and high school. The "thing" that upsets me the most when I sub is that the Hispanic students refuse to speak, at all times, in English. If they don't want me, or other non-speaking Spanish teachers/students to know what they are saying, they start speaking in Spanish. This action gains very little respect from me, and I find myself being very biased toward these students. They are living in America, being educated in America, receiving financial benefits, and yet they refuse to speak English.

If I chose to live in a foreign country, one where English was not the native language, I would be speaking my adopted country's language every chance I got.

You will probably always retain an accent from your native country; but, by constantly speaking English, you will be able to fluently communicate with those who have been speaking the language for 60+ years.

Practicing a lot is good advice, but even more important, RELAX! Focus on communicating your ideas, don't worry so much about having all the right words and grammar. Wait until you can communicate comfortable to worry about perfecting your grammar.

And I have one more piece of advice.

I am totally serious and not joking at all.

If you are legally old enough to drink alcohol and have no religious or personal reasons to avoid alcohol, drink a glass of wine or beer when you practice.

Don't get drunk and act stupid. ONE drink will help you RELAX enough to communicate more fluently.

It is a long process. Do not despair, have patience. We are honored that you are making the effort to learn our difficult language, and we will not judge you for making mistakes. Yes, you will have headaches for a while (at least I did while learning Spanish), but it is so worth it. Fluency comes with relaxation, not with tension. You will have to stop being such a perfectionist, and then you will progress faster. We are all supportive of your efforts. Calm down.

Just keep trying. You will make lots of mistakes that's okay.
The more you try the better you will get.
Language learning hint... Find a way to listen to as much of the language as possible. Really listen to it. It will amaze you how phrases you've heard like this will pop into your head once they are there. Listen, listen, listen and don't hesitate to speak, just go for it.

You should practice with someone who is fluent in English. Or become an exchange student in an English speaking country.

practice a LOT, at least 4 hours every day. You can even practice by speaking along with your favorite DVDs - turn the subtitles on so you know the words.

One one tip is required by you, if you can do. Just read aloud the newspaper or text books every day for one hour and if you can not understand your improvement within one month, I shall eat my head. This is the universal theory of studying any language, especially phonetic arts.
