Respect the right everyone has to believe as they want. I don't, however, respect people who use their beliefs to justify their hateful actions towards others. A thing isn't respected... people deserving of respect are respected. And that totally depends on the individual... not what religion they follow.

People should respect other people's religions because religion can and does enrich people's lives. I'm not religious but I'm not anti-religious either. Religions can be a source of pain and suffering at times, but they can also offer new perspectives and ideas about the world, including influencing it for the better.

As an Atheist, it is not Religion I respect. It is many of the people who sincerely believe, that I respect.

For as many reasons as you can site not to, there are 100 more to respect it. Years and years people have believed in religion, no matter what God or being you respect. Because of the laws of that religion. Because just to be on the safe side, if you do -what is the harm? If you don't and there is a God - and you didnt respect religion your screwed!

I'd say that you should respect people and their choice to believe. On the other hand it is hard to respect ignorance, especially willful ignorance.
I respect people when they understand their religion, when they find inspiration from it and when it helps they reach out in love and tolerance. I don't respect them when they use it as a blinder to things that go against their faith or if they just follow their faith blindly.

I think you should respect God and then have respect for people who practice their choice of religion. We are lucky enough in our Country to be able to practice our religion freely though, there are many in government and in high places who are making it more difficult for those who even utter the name of God, say a public prayer, write of God or Jesus (or of religious beliefs) who would like to put laws into effect to keep religion away from public display. Taking freedoms from our people is not respecting religious beliefs; it is instilling a practice which is offensive and wrong and is changing the freedoms that we have fought so hard to keep. I am sick and tired of people (like Nancy Pelosi, for instance) who would very much like to make a law that prohibits the use of God on our currancy, in our writings and in public places. It is disgusting and I hope people will fight it to the end. No one has a right to take away a person's religious beliefs and the ability to stand up for what you consider important in your faith.

Because the God Yahweh based religions evolved from their misinterpretation of Yahweh's scientific based instructions and teachings. This misinterpretations started with Moses himself who followed Yahweh's new instructions but didn't and couldn't have understood the scientific reason behind Yahweh's new instructions for His newly formed nation. So even though it is a wrong interpretation it should still be respected as being right.

You have to respect something that can get control of so many people who just can't help being superstitious. Oh, and if you don't respect 'em they'll see you go to what ever bad place their religion dictates for people who don't respect 'em.

Simply because you should respect people. Showing respect for other people's beliefs, even if you don't share them, is part of showing respect for people. If you think what someone believes is wrong, you won't change their mind by ridiculing that belief or by behaving in a way that is offensive to them.
