My friends kus a lot and they say that it's O.K because it does not state that foul language is a sin.
I want to try to prove them wrong so that they can stop.

Thanks for you help.

Are they cursing other people? Because that would be against the "Do not murder" commandment b/c Jesus said hating someone was murdering them in your heart.

Anything that doesn't bring God glory or anything that diminishes His glory should not be a part of the life practices of children of Jesus Christ. Jesus was our perfect example so we should try to be like Him.

Here are some scriptures.

Matthew 15:

17: Do not ye yet understand, that whatsoever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
18: But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.

1 Corinthians

11: 1 Be ye followers of me (The Apostle Paul), even as I also am of Christ.

Galatians Chapter 5:

13: For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another.
14: For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
15: But if ye bite and devour one another, take heed that ye be not consumed one of another.
16: This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.
17: For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
18: But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
19: Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20: Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21: Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
22: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23: Meekness, temperance:against such there is no law.

There are plenty of places in the Bible, especially in the New Testament, where the use of clean language is encouraged. Since you have a computer, find a good on-line concordance, and search for the subject "profanity" or "speech". You will find, eventually, all the material you need.

The Decalogue does not specifically prohibit cussing. If your friends try to use that as an excuse ("if it isn't prohibited in the 10 Commandments it isn't a sin"), then ask them if rape, child abuse, assault and battery, and arson are sins, since they aren't mentioned in the big 10 either!

The 10 Commandments are merely a foundation of moral law, not the end-all of the subject. The whole point of the moral code (found in the Old Testament) is to show us that on our own, we CAN'T be as good as God wants us to be; we need Christ to guide us. Does Christ want your friends to beat people up? Isn't indiscriminate cussing considered verbal abuse? Have them think about that.

The 10 Commandments are not the only laws.

It's not in any of the 10 Commandments, but it is in Ephesians 4:29 "Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen."

There is also quite a bit of discussion of it in James 3.

Eph:4:29: Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Col:3:8: But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.

Eph:5:4: Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient: but rather giving of thanks.

Mat 15:10 And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:
Mat 15:11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

Luke 6:45 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.

well Carlos none of the laws of God apply to you if you are not a Christian. Breaking one more or less will make no difference, but don't stop counting at ten because there are a lot more than ten..

Comandemnet #3:
"You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in Vain"
Why would you want to use a cuss word with God in it?
That's just wrong!
I asked my mom why cuss words are bad if people made them up,not God.
She said because people are stupid like that and you shouldn't imitate them!

(3) “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses His name.” This is a command against taking the name of the Lord in vain. We are not to treat God’s name lightly. We are to show reverence to God by only mentioning Him in respectful and honoring ways.
