It's that "forgiveness" loophole they believe in.

I can think of several possibilities:
1) Christians believe that they will be forgiven for anything so long as they repent and accept Jesus as their Savior.
2) Many prisoners convert or revert to Christianity in prison.
3) Atheists conversely tend to regard their current lives as their sole opportunities for existence and generally will say that they hope to make the most of their lives; that would not include spending them in incarceration, perhaps.

It is not a group of people but people. Stupid people go to jail and stupid people can be from any group.

BTW This study does not say whether or not these immates were christians before they went to prison. There are a lot of people who find Jesus in jail. One reason for this saying your an atheist isn't going to get you out of prison. So they learn the bible and claim they are christian to get paroled.

Tebone- They are not born again they are saved hun. There is a difference. To be born again means to think like Christ. Saved just means you're Christian.

There are many ungodly people who claim to be Christians. All of the Democrat candidates for President claim to be Christians, but openly support activity which is counter to biblical teachings.
I believe you are probably right if we interpret Christians to mean those who claim to be Christians. So many are completely dishonest in their claims to Christianity, that clearly it is much more likely that they would commit crimes.
Real Christians are surely not nearly as likely to go to jail, even though they are sinners and not perfect, by any means.

One theory is that they are told their sins can be forgiven by JC - thus it's okay to commit them.

Another is that, in general, believers simply are less intelligent and less educated, thus they have fewer opportunities and more likelihood of becoming criminals.

Another is that believers think they will get answers and a better life from their religion, and when there are no real answers and no better life they turn to crime in frustration.

Most of them arent Christians TIL they go to jail. They become "born again Christians" in jail thinking it will help their case

Where did you hear that? Prisoners are not usually Christians when they go to jail, but then find God while in jail.

Yeah, interesting. I have seen some statistics, however, I'm not sure whether they were official polling or have a margin of error.
