Not feeding your puppy will only make them more protective of their food. Yes, feed them normally. They will have no idea the lack of food is because they peed in the hall, all it means to them is *food is scarce.*

When the pee in the hall, grab them (Not roughly or to hurt them,) drag them (again, not roughly) to the spot they urinated and shove their face near it. (Not in it.) Then put them in a crate.

When house-breaking a puppy, a metal cage crate is the most useful piece of equipment you will have. They will know that they get put in here when they urinate outside. Also, locking them in this at night, especially if it is a smaller crate, will dissuade them from urinating as they will have to sleep near it. Then, FIRST THING in the morning, let them outside, so they know they won't have to deal with it if they wait. Then feed them a treat until they get a hang of it.

Good luck, and you seem a responsible pet owner for asking before depriving your puppy food.

John.

EDIT--------------------

NEAR the waste NOT in it. Did I not make that abundantly clear? Then they know what the punishment is for!

I am a concerned animal lover, never would I put a dogs head in waste. Perhaps you should read carefully before critisizing?

Withholding the dog's meal will in no way assist in housebreaking the dog. It will also in no way prevent future accidents. Your mom needs read up on proper pet care.

Your dog must eat everyday. It's best if it is about the same time every day. The ONLY reason you should withhold food is if the dog is slated for a surgical procedure and the vet advises it, or of the dog has diarrhea, and in that case you would want to withhold solid food for 24 hours to allow the pup's stomach to settle. Fresh water must be available at all times.

If your mom wants to effectively housebreak the dog, establish a routine. Take the pup out frequently and at about the same time daily. As the pup matures you can lengthen the amount of time between potty breaks.

What the heck? You cannot take a dog's dinner away from him for making an ACCIDENT in the house.. You have to get him outside in time so accidents don't happen.. IF anyone should miss their dinner tonight.. it's the PERSON who should have made sure that the dog was being properly housetrained and gotten him outside on time.. Dogs are NOT little tiny people.. they don't understand that he loses dinner cause he had an accident.. You aren't teaching him anything except that you aren't feeding him. What kind of pack leader are you... it's your job to feed the pack and you are withholding food to an animal which cannot understand the reason why.. Poor dog.

Edit : I cannot believe people are still telling others to ' rub their nose in it ' when a puppy makes a mistake in the house. If a puppy makes a mistake in the house, it's your fault.. The puppy wasn't crated when you weren't watching you haven't taken them out often enough, you haven't praised enough and you haven't been consistent.. IF your puppy is making mistakes in the house and someone needs their nose rubbed in something, it's the owner for not paying closer attention.. DO NOT rub your dog's nose in pee or poop. It does NOT teach them to go outside. Also do NOT spank your dog for making a mistake in the house. You are teaching them that pee and poop is bad, NOT that peeing in the house is bad.. No Face rubbing, and NO Spanking.. CRATE TRAINING!

Oh my gosh. Withholding food should never be used as a punishment. I would consider that a form of neglect or even abuse. Puppies pee. That is a fact of life. You need to train the dog with love and patience. You cannot punish them for doing something that they may not even understand yet. If you are having trouble training them,I would suggest laying down some puppy training pads. The pads are treated with scent so the puppy will return to the pads to pee. My sister,my mom,and I have all used the pads when training our dogs and have been very successful with housebreaking. You also need to pay attention to the signals that your puppy may be giving that he has to pee. He may get restless, start circling the room, start sniffing the floor. That would be your cue to take him out. Taking him out at regular intervals will also help. Lots of praise not punishment is the best way to train.

Best alternative; See a vet. The breeder won't realize up to you consider. I realize this when you consider that I have a pal with darn close part a dozen puppies, and she or he does not realize crap approximately learn how to teach them or while it is time to see the vet. Heck, she thinks that tying a cinderblock to a puppy's leash and letting it runn across the backyard is an exceptional approach to excersise a higher puppy. Their rottie *beatiful puppy* hasn't left the little ten foot discipline he sleeps in within the whole time I've recognized her. In different phrases, simply when you consider that they possess or breed puppies does NOT imply they realize puppies. Also, the breeder perhaps keeping off being heald responsible for the quandary. You'll additionally get plenty of humans telling you no reliable breeder will breed a combination. Second satisfactory; Try replacing her nutrition. Do it slowly, from one dry meals to one other. Mix them in combination, slowly growing the volume of the brand new stuff in evaluation to the ancient stuff. And pepto? I would not do this. Bad suggestion to provide your puppy humans treatment, until it is like bacitracin to place on a reduce.

If you know it was the boy, then obviously you/mom saw him do it. Maybe you/mom should not get dinner cause you did not take him out BEFORE he peed. If he left trail, he had to go bad, and could not hold it any more. Dogs/puppies usually pee in one spot, not in a line down a hall or where ever.

How the **** could you do something like that to a dog? Use treats, and make noise reward them when they pee and poop in the right place. Don't reward them when they do something wrong, and tap them on the nose and say bad boy/girl. Would you like it if your parents didnt feed you if you accidentally peed your pants? if they are 5 months old then they need to eat twice every day, in the morning and at night. I am a trained veterinarian so you can trust me. I went to college for this for my professionals degree. You can get arrested for not feeding your dog, it is neglect, and they will find out........

The dog will not have the slightest idea of why he is being punished. When a puppy pees in the house the owner needs to roll up a newspaper and hit themselves in the head for not watching the dog close enough.

no that is ridiculous try paper training. small dog cannot hold it very long even more so when they are pups so try giving them a place where it is OK to pee that helps with potty training if you don't want to use paper they make absorbent puppy pads. never not feed him because his little tini bladder gave out and he peed everywhere. i think if they go outside ever hour to two hours and have enough time to pee twice if they need to while out there then they should have less accidents

Food deprivation is NOT a good punishment. To train your Jacks, the first thing they should learn is the meaning of NO, it might even save their lives. Do a little research on the web and it would help a lot.

When my Jack understood the word NO, it was relatively easy to train him. Jacks are very smart. Good luck.

You have to feed him as much as most of would like to think they are not children, he's already forgotten what he's done. Not feeding him can only lead to destructive behavior. That is not right. Feed the poor puppy just watch his water intake and let him out accordingly to his consumption or activity. Feed him along with the other and get them both on a schedule and remember one may learn faster than the other.
